A group of pro-Japanese reformers tried to take over the Korean goverment but Gen. Yüan Shih-k'ai's Chinese troops stopped them, and they saved the Korean King. Besides saving the King these Chinese troops also killed a couple Japanese legalation guards.

Li-Ito Convention was a treaty that was signed to stop and prevent war; this treaty stated that both mations agreed to withdraw troops from Korea.

War began among the Japanese and the Chinese, they fought because both countries wanted authority over Korea. Korea had been China's most important client state for a while. Yet Japan was also interested in Korea; Korea was oppisite of the Japanese islands and had natural resources such as coal and iron.

Japan had sucsuessfully invaded Shantung and Manchuna, plus they had forts set up commanding the sea approching Peking.
To stop the fighting Japan and China had a treaty, it's called Treaty of Shimonosek, this treaty stopped the conflict between the countries, made China loose Taiwan and Korea(KOrea got freedom), and China had to pay a large indemnity so that Japan could have trading privilges on Chinese territory.
