Significant Legislative Events for the Exceptional Child

  • Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965

Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965
The critical component was that it encouraged states to create and improve programs for the exceptioinal students by offering a grant program. It included provisons for additional teachers in disadvantaged communities.I believe this is an important start because adding the financial cushion for the states gave them a great incentive to help the exceptional students and allowed more help for disadvantaged students. I think is a great advantage and makes the effort have a better chance of success.
