    Nara period
The Nara period (710–794 CE) was a time of great cultural and political change in Japan. The capital was moved to Nara, which was modeled after the Chinese capital of Chang'an. This led to a major influx of Chinese culture and ideas, which had a profound impact on Japanese society. During the Nara period, Buddhism flourished in Japan. Many new temples were built, including Todai-ji, which is still one of the largest wooden buildings in the world.
