Foundation of Jamestown
Jamestown was founded in what is now modern day Virginia, and was the first permenant settlement in the colonies. -

The house of Burgesses was the first lagislative assembly in North America elected by the colonist. -

John Peter Zenger
Zenger wrote to a newspaper to voice his disagreement with the ideas and rules of the new govener, John was then arrested and thrown in jail. -
French and Indian War
Also known as the seven years war, this war was fought between the colonies and new french for the right to land in the colonies. After defeating the French the colonies gained all the land west of the mississipi river. -
Albany Plan of Union
The plan of union, was devised by Benjamin Franklin and was designed to give the power to the colonial legislature to elect delagates to the American continetal assembly. -
Proclamation of 1763
This was a proclamation from King George III stating that no settlers could settle past the Appalachian Mountains. -
Stamp Act
This was a law stating that anything with the revunue stamp of England had to be taxed. These things were things such as newspapers, magazines, legal documents, and other types of paper documents. -
Quartering Act
The quartering act requiered the colonist to give shelter, food and whatever else the soldiers required. -
Declatory Act
This act was a repeal of the stamp act by the British Parliment. They repealed the stamp act because colonial boycotts were hurting trade. -
Boston Massacre
The Boston massacre was the killing of five colonist by British regulars. -
Tea Act
The Tea act would prove to be the final spark for the revoluanary movement in the colonies. -
Boston Tea Party
American colonist dressed as indians borded the shipment of Tea from the East India Company and dumped all of it into the boston harbour as a boycott to the recent tea act. -
1st Continental congress
A convention held in philadelphia after the passage of the intolerable act. The congress met to duscuss options such as boycotting british trade. -
2nd continental congress
This continental congress met shortly after the beginning of warfare between the colonies and britian. The 2nd continental congress adopted the Declaration of Independence. -
Declaration of Independence
The decaration of independence adopted by the 2nd continental congress stated the colonies freedom from Great Britian. -
Treaty of Paris
The treaty of paris was an agreement between the colonies and britian stating the colonies freedom from Britian, thus ending the revolutaniary war, and creating the United States.
