  • Invention of the cotton gin

    As Eli Whitney left New England he decided he wanted to make a Cotton GIn, which made proccessing cotton much easier for a greater quality and cheaper cloth. The Cotton Gin was one of the many inventions in the American Revoloution and it was inevitable to the Civil war.
  • The Embargo Act

    The Embargo Act
    The Embargo Act of was a law that the United State Congress passed and signed by President Thomas Jefferson. This act prohibits American ships from trading in all foreign ports, embargo on all American merchant ships and prohibiting foreign trade. The embargo caused more trouble for AMericans than it did for the British and French.
  • Missouri Compromise

    Was an agreement by Henry Clay that said Missouri was allowed to enter the Union as a free state. It divided the Louisiana Territtory into two areas. This compromise encouraged people in the north to return runaway slaves to their homes and did not prohibit slavery, even in the free territories.
  • Tariff of Abominations

    Tariff of Abominations was passed by the House of Rep, iot was set out to protect the northern and western agriculture products from pometing with foreign imports. President John Quincy Adams approved the bill on May 19, 1828, helping to seal his loss to Andrew Jackson in the 1828 presidential election. Later that year in response to the tariff, Vice President John C. Calhoun said articulating the doctrine of nullification.
  • Mexican-American War

    John Fremont and Stepen Kearny were the men that were sent to control California and New Mexico. The war started in Mexico and since they were coming in the lands people were fleeing. It was in Mexico in 1846 and it was important because it formed a treaty and the United States gained more territory. I think it was a conflict because they were fighting over land and they didn't have a choice but to give it up.
  • Wilmot Proviso

    Wilmot and some northerners were angry at President Polk. They felt that the entire Cabinet and national agenda were dominated by southern minds and southern principles. Wilmot introduced legislation in the House that boldly declared, "neither slavery nor involuntary servitude shall ever exist" in lands won in the Mexican-American War.
  • Compromise of 1850

    Compromise of 1850
    This compromise was series of 5 different bills that were there to half strife. It was passed during Millard Filmore's presidency. Its goal was to deal with the spread of slavery to different territories in order to keep northern and southern interest in balance.
  • Uncle Toms Cabin

    Written by William G. Allen he wrote a letter praising the absolutist in a novel and points out how to say that slavery is a national sin, The illustration shows the cruelty of slavery. The document moves towards conflict but still shows compromise. The man tells how the novel show the evils of slavery, which the north saw in the south didn't. Because this cause of this is the wild popularity of the novel which brought up new things or slavery.
  • Kansas-Nebraska Act

    This act created the territories of Kansas and Nebraska, opened lands and repealed the Missouri Compromise, it also allowed settlers in those territories to determine if they would allow slavery within their boundaries. This act was made by Senator Stephen A. Douglas of Illinois, he hoped to ease relations between the North and South.
  • Bleeding Kansas

    John Brown and a number of abolitionists led this violent event in Kansas because of the issue of slavery.This document could be used to prove that the north and south became further divided after the incident. Also, this event made the north look more evil to the south.The issues concerning the Kansas-Nebraska act, more specifically whether Kansas would become a free or slave state.
  • Dred Scott Case

    This case written by Roger Taney, this document was said by him that during a case in which slave wished to keep his freedom, but he ruled against him, he also showed fascism towards African Americans. It showed conflict between the white population and the slave and free AA, as he ruled the case based all on race and bias towards the north.
  • House Divided Speech

    This speech was made by Lincoln during his presidency. He stated how he thought the Dred Scott case would lead to the states legalizing slavery. It took place in Illinois in 1858 and it was important because it pointed out that you could still be a slave in a free state. I think it was a compromise because everyone thought it was fine since blacks didn't have rights anyway, only he blacks thought it was a problem.
  • John Brown Raid

    John and a group of his followers traveled to Harper's Ferry; capturing citizens and seizing armory. John hoped that local slaves would join his group to gather weapons and free the slave. This event did not last long, Marines roared in killing many.
  • Election of 1860

    Presidential Election between Abraham Lincoln in the north and John Bell in the south. There were two other minor candidates. As his strategy, Lincoln wanted to win the northern and western states.It could be used to prove that the Republicans regained control politically after a large number of Democratic Presidents. Also, Lincoln was to win over the northern and southern states using his political platform.
  • South Carolina Secedes from Union

    During this time Lincoln had just became president. Some states were celebrating even if they didn't vote for him like South Carolina. It happened in South Carolina mostly in 1860 and it was important because it showed how people dealt with Lincoln becoming president and how each state handled it. I think it was a conflict because the line made it so the south had slave states and the north had free states but the republicans didn't like that either.
