    Congress passes the Three-Fifths Clause stating that each slave is to be counted as three-fifths of a person for calculating representation in Congress. This act strengthens the power in the House of Representatives for slave states.

    The compromise stated that slavery was legal within the borders of Missouri. Slavery was then excluded for territories North of latitude 36 30. They believed this would help maintain the needs of both the North and South as well as ease the Nation's tensions.

It further banned the slave trade in Washington D.C. The ban of the slave trade greatly angered the South. This anger further promoted their feelinngs of rebeling.

    This allowed slave holders to claim run away slaves. This resulted in many slave holders claiming free African Americans as slaves. This resulted in an increase of activity in the Underground Railroad. This showed the first small piece of rebellion by the Northern States.

    The book contained the harsh reality of being a slave. It shows the daily strougle of living as someones propery. The book was mass produced all across America. The book rapidly began to change the thought behind the issue of slavery. It changed many people into active abolitionists and changed numerous slave suporters into non slave supporters.

    This act allowed the residents of Kansas and Nebraska to choose for themselves if their States would be free or slaveholding. This act contradicted the Missouri Compromise. It disrupted the proper balance of free and slave States. It further upset the North and put the Nation at edge.

    This case ruled against Dred Scott. The Supreme Court found that slaves were not U.S citizens an therefore no recognized by law. This destroyed all past compromises and allowed for Slave owners to take their slaves to any part of the U.S. This anggered the North because they realized their land would soon be filled with unwanted slaves.

    John Brown Raid
    John Brown lead an attack upon Harper's Ferry Virginia. His intentions were to start a slave uprising using their captured weapons. The later hanging of Mr. Brown resulted in complete division between North and South. The South viewed Mr. Brown as an enemy and were given a sense of justice as his life was taken. The North viewed him as a hero and were extremly disrespected by his death.

    While Lincoln was running for presidency, six states claimed they would leave the U.S if Lincoln was elected. With Lincoln elected, it made the idea clear that he would directly attack all States leaving the U.S. This made it clear to the Nation that war was coming soon.
