    Before the Renaissance

    Before the Renaissance
There wasn't much understanding of science. Rodger Bacon was an amazing scholar at the time. He was one of the earliest people to think about scientific experimentation, rather than religious ideas that had been past down.

    Nicolaus Copernicus publishes a theory

    Nicolaus Copernicus publishes a theory
In the early 1500s Copernicus started to abandon the old belief that the world was geocentric(meaning Earth centered) He started to believe that the world was heliocentric(meaning sun centered) People did not pay much attention to his theory.

Andreas Vesalius studies the human body

Andreas Vesalius studies the human body
He refused to understand the descriptions of he human body, and the little known knowledge of the body, written 1,400 years earlier. So he decided to do his own studies on the body. Once her finished that he wrote a 7 volume book on the body called The Fabric of the Human Heart. He had amazing drawings for his time, it helped his readers get a better understanding of what the body looked like inside.

William Harvey also studied the human body

William Harvey also studied the human body
He made important contributions, such experimenting about the human heart and blood. He then got a good understanding on how the blood flows through the body using veins and arteries.
  • Kepler studys Copernicus's theory and publish one with more evidence

Kepler studys Copernicus's theory and publish one with more evidence
Although Copernicus had made a breakthrough in planetary motion he didn't have the tools or math to prove his theory. Kepler used math and models to test Copernicus's theory, and published a theory in 1609
  • Francis Bacon has the same ideas as Descartes

Francis Bacon has the same ideas as Descartes
Bacon believes that all assumptions must be proven true with scientific evidence. He relied on truths that could be demonstrated instead of thinking or assuming. He published a book called Novum Organum, this was an outline for what he believed in, and a new way of knowledge
  • Galilei comes up with a theory based on Copernicus's and Kepler's

Galilei comes up with a theory based on Copernicus's and Kepler's
Galilei makes the telescope and uses it to study the planets and sketches his findings. He published a theory in 1632 based on his findings and backing up what Copernicus and Kepler said in their theory.
  • Galileo's theory causes an uproar

    Galileo's theory causes an uproar
Galileo's theory caused an uproar. the people at this time were very religious and believed what they were told, especially with religion. When this theory came out many scholars and church officials were mad since it went against a past theory, and it went against the bible teachings. Some people thought that the telescope was an invention of the devil. Galileo conducts many experiments in his life that prove Ptolemy's theory (A philosopher who lived in 100 AD) wrong.
  • Descartes writes a book on the importance of scientific evidence.

Descartes writes a book on the importance of scientific evidence.
In the book his main point was that all assumptions had to be proven true. He thought that was very important so that people have as much correct knowledge about science as possible.
  • Rene Descartes helps advance the revolution

Rene Descartes helps advance the revolution
He had great ideas in math, science and philosophy. He thought that no assumptions should be made without question and proof backing up the theory.
  • Decartes studied different fields of science

Decartes studied different fields of science
He thought everything was interesting in science, so therefore he studied many different topics. He studied physical sciences, astronomy, the scientific method, algebra and geometry. He made a formula on how light reflects from a smooth surface. Since most og his work challenged the church teachings he was forced to live in a Protestant kingdom in Sweden.

    Scientists learn more about chemistry
Robert Boyle showed that temperature and pressure affect the space that a gas occupies
  • Isaac Newton Publishes a book

    Isaac Newton Publishes a book
Newton publishes a book on the findings of Copernicus, Kepler, and Galileo. Their findings were that the planets, including the earth. Traveled around the sun. Newton had explained why this was true, the other scientists could not.
  • Newton finds evidence to support his theory and the past scientist

Newton finds evidence to support his theory and the past scientist
It took many experiments and measure experiments Newton came to understand that force holds the planets together, so he came up with the law of universal gravitation. He also proposed the laws of motion,

Joseph Priestly discovered the element of oxygen, and Antoine Lavoisier later named it. Lavoisier believed fire was an element, he showed fire resulted when a substance rapidly combined with oxygen.
