    Earth's Not Round?!?!

    Earth's Not Round?!?!
Nicolaus Copernicus was the first person to theorize the Earth was not the center of the universe. This was called the Copernican System. Before Copernicus, people assumed every thing in space circled around Earth. His theory is important in modern days, because now we know when we discover things that they probably circle the sun.
  • Thermoscope or Thermometer?

    Thermoscope or Thermometer?

  • Galileo's New and Improved Telescope

    Galileo's New and Improved Telescope
Galileo was born in Italy, which is Europe. In 1609, he invented a new and improved telescope. A couple had been made before his that could see and object three times larger than an ordinary object. The difference between his invention and others, was Galileo’s telescope was able to see twenty times the regular object. His telescope has had a great impact on us, seeing as it lead to many new discoveries. Discoveries such as, craters on the moon.

    The Barometer
Evangelista Torricelli (Europe) was the inventor of the barometer. He discovered the principles of a barometer while trying to create a vacuum. When making the vacuum, he wondered why the mercury in the vacuum changed daily. He realized it was because of the atmospheric pressure. So, Torricelli built the first mercury barometer in 1644.
  • Candy Canes

    Candy Canes
The choirmaster at the Cologne Cathedral in Germany is the inventor of candy canes. He bent sugar sticks at the top to make the sugar sticks represent a shepard's staff. Although back then the candy canes were completely white, stripes were not added to them until up to 50 years later. So thanks to a choirmaster in Germany we now have a sweet treat to eat during the joyful holidays.
  • Newton's Rainbow

    Newton's Rainbow
Isaac Newton (from England) was the first to understand the light spectrum, a.k.a. rainbows. He used a prism to break up light into it’s original colors; red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and violet. Isaac was able to explain why you see rainbows when it’s sprinkling, because the water droplets act as prisms separating light. This theory has effected us today, because using the theory artists were able to separate colors into primary and secondary colors. Also, known as hot and cold colors.
