  • Selmer Paris modern octave mechanism

    Selmer Paris modern octave mechanism

In 1934, Selmer released the Super Radio improved model. This specific model featured a new octave mechanism that would soon become the the best octave mechanism on the saxophone market. Before the Radio Improved model, there was not a similar design between manufacturers, most trying to make their own, however this specific mechanism would go on to be the most common mechanism on modern horns, due to its very easy maintenance, and much easier setup.
  • Conn 26M/30M models

    Conn 26M/30M models

The Conn 26/30M models solved the that also Selmer had, making the left hand table keys comfortable. Just like the Selmer BA, they changed the position of the table mechanism, which was more comfortable than the BA, however is much more complex. Most of these horns are not playing well anymore and it would cost more than the horn is worth to fix these days. They also made other improvements to the horn that were too complex, and many don't know how to properly take care of the horn.
  • Selmer Balanced Action

    Selmer Balanced Action

Selmer introduced the Balanced Action model in 1936, making one of the biggest steps towards the modern saxophone mechanics. The horn made many changes to this horn over its predecessor, but most notable was the updated table keys. This change made the horn easier to play, putting the table keys at a more comfortable position. This also included the introduction of left side bell keys. The design is not what all modern saxophones use, but is close. The change is much easier to maintain and setup
  • Selmer Super Balanced Action

    Selmer Super Balanced Action

Selmer in 1946 produced the Super Balanced Action(SBA) with few changes over the last BA model. Most important was the offset of the toneholes. Before this saxophones had it's toneholes in a straight line which is uncomfortable, but with the toneholes in the right hand offset to be more comfortable for the right hand and the same for the left, made the horn much more comfortable. This change did not make any change in mechanics, but players much preferred the design to other horns on the market
  • Selmer Mark VI

    Selmer Mark VI

Today the VI is the most popular horn on the used market, I even own one. The VI had a couple of changes that made the saxophone stand out over the SBA. The Table keys were improved more at this time, being easiest to play, set up and maintain. Another Plus the VI made on some later models was the F# arm not connected the F keycup, this made setup and maintenance much better. These horns are the godfather of the modern saxophone because most modern saxophones use the mechanics on this horn
