    Eratosthenes

    Eratosthenes created the Sieve of Eratosthenes which was a number chart that was used to figure out prime numbers. It is important because it was used to calculate the circumstance of the Earth which then later led to more discoveries. He was born 276 BC and died 194 BC. It was discovered in the 3rd century BCE.

    Claudius Ptolemy

    Created the geocentric theory. This theory was said that all objects in space, moons, and stars orbited Earth. Also it was said that Earth was in the center of the universe and did not move at all. It was developed in 2nd century C.E. It was important because it served as a base to all astronomical charts.

    Nicolaus Copernicus

    His discoveries were that the Sun was “at rest” in the center of the universe. Also that the Earth revolves around the Sun annually. It is important because those discoveries were in fact true today and based on that we can figure out seasons.
  • Tycho Brahe

    Tycho Brahe
    Tycho was really known for his discovery of Tychonic System. It was a model of the solar system. It was a hypothesis that the Earth was the center of the universe. This discovery happened about the 1600’s.
  • Johannes Kepler

    Kepler’s major discovery was with Kepler’s Laws. Those laws describe the motion of the planets around the sun. It is important because it was a huge discovery and understanding planetary motion. He was born December 27, 1951 and died November 15, 1630. The first 2 laws were published in 1609 then all 3 were published in 1619.

    Sir Issac Newton created Newton’s 3 Laws of Motion. Newton’s laws are important because everything we see almost everyday has something to do with one of those laws. He was born January 4, 1643 and died March 31, 1727.
