    The City of St. Augustine is the nation's oldest permanently occupied European settlement, having been founded by the Spanish in 1565. This is important because St. Augustine, Florida stayed in the same place unlike others.

    The Maryland Toleration Act was passed in 1649 by assembly of the Province of Marylandmandating religious toleration.The Calverts, who founded Maryland, needed to attract settlers to make the colonial venture profitable. The Maryland Toleration was important because it allowed freedom of worship for all Christians in Maryland.

The colonies wanted to be their own "country", with their own government. Our founding fathers wrote the Declaration of Independence to show British that we were ready to be our own. This is important today because it declared that the thirteen colonies of North America were free & independent from British. All mens were free!

    The Bill of Rights was the first ten amendments to the United States Constitution. Important because these limitations serve to protect the natural rights if liberty and property. The Bill of Rights limited government's role & gave the individual certain rights that neither the government nor majority could infringe on. The Constitution was originally written without the Bill of Rights & many Founding Fathers wouldn't sign it since they feared that the federal government would be too powerful.

    Eli Whitney was the inventor of the cotton gin and a pioneer in the mass production of cotton. The cotton gin was so important because it changes the way the South produces their most profitable material, cotton. With the success of the cotton gin, it was easy to make bundles of cotton in short amount of time. Also, it allowed people to be able to focus on differetn varieties of cotton.

This is important because Lincoln was valuable to the Union so long as the Confederacy was in rebellion. Lincoln's assassination was his reward for successfully concluding the War Between the States. The whole country grieved the death of President Lincoln.
