  • Hutu Rebellion

    A Hutu rebellion begins against the Tutsis and Belgians.
  • Tutsi monarchy is abolished

    The Tutsi monarchy is abolished. Hutus win elections, thousands of Tutsis flee the country.
  • Tutsis get exiled

    Tutsis are exiled out of Rwanda and Hutus began killing Tutsis. Goes on for 10 more years
  • RPF invade Rwanda

    The RPF invade Rwanda, starting a civil war (RPF stands for Rwandan Patriotic Front. It was formed in 1985 as a political group of Tutsi nationalists who were exiled from Rwanda. They demanded the right to return to their homeland as citizens and wanted an end to discrimination against the Tutsis)
  • Massacre at Gikondo

    Massacre at Gikondo - hundreds of Tutsis are killed in the Pallottine Missionary Catholic Church. Since the killers were clearly targeting only Tutsi, the Gikondo massacre was the first clear sign that a genocide was occurring.
  • RPF gains control of Rwanda

    The Rwanda Genocide ends when the RPF gains control of the country.
