    Rwandan President Juvénal Habyarimana is killed when his plane is shot out of the sky. This is the official beginning of the Rwandan Genocide.

    Hutu begin to kill political opponents including the prime minister.

    Tutsis are killed at a missionary church. Tutsis were the only ones being targeted so it shows that there is a genocide is appearing.

  • The Kibuye Massacres

    12,000 Tutsis killed after sheltering in a stadium. An estimated 50,000 more killed who were mostly in hospitals and churches.

  • Rwandans flee

    An estimated 250,000 mostly Tutsis flee to Tanzania

  • RPF take control

    The Rwandan Patriotic Front(RPF) take control of the presidential palace

  • French create safe zone

    The French create a safe zone in the southwest of Rwanda.

  • Hutu flee

    Approximately 1 million Hutu flee to the Congo

  • RPF take complete control

    The Rwandan Patriotic Front takes control ending the 100 of slaughtering in Rwanda.
