  • First Rubik's cube is invented

    The first ever Rubik's cube/puzzle is invented by Ernő Rubik. The puzzle is made of wood with the corners cut and unpainted.
  • The magic cube is invented

    The magic cube is invented in Hungary. It is painted with 6 different colors. 5 years later, the cute is renamed to the Rubik's cube.
  • The Rubik's cube is publicly released.

    The Rubik's cube is publicly released in puzzle shops, mainly in Hungary in 1977. By 1980, the cube is one of the most popular puzzles worldwide.
  • The first guide is released

    The first guide on how to solve the Rubik's cube is released by David Slingmaster.
  • The puzzle of the year award

    The Rubik's cube is the puzzle of the year award in 1981.
  • The first World Championships

    In 1982, the first Rubik’s Cube World Championship was held in the capital of Hungary. 20 competitors, all selected from smaller competitions in their home countries, came together to solve the Rubik’s Cube as fast as possible. The winner was Minh Thai, an American teenager, who solved the cube in 22.95 seconds. He then later published a book entitled “The Winning Solution”, which also taught others how to solve the Rubik’s Cube with the Ortega Corners-First method.
  • Speedcubes

    In 1996, a Rubik's cube brand called YongJun created a cube that was much different to the original Rubik's Cube. It was said to be much faster and smoother. People referred it as 'the speedcube' until, soon, better cubes were being made and the term 'speedcube' was used to describe any Rubik's Cube that has been 'modified' to create a better and faster experience.
  • The Fridrich Method

    Jessica Fridrch publicly shows how to solve the Rubik's cube with the Fridrich method, Also commonly known as CFOP, which is still the fastest was to solve the Rubik's cube.
  • The three Competitors

    A Chinese speedcube brand called GANS was created in 2011. The brand was a huge success and made one of the best speedcube on the market. In 2013, Qiyi, or MoFangGe, and Moyu are released as speedcube brands too. Since then these brands were the three main speedcubing on the market.
  • Feliks Zemdegs

    In the POPS 2017 competition, Feliks Zemdegs, An Australian speedcuber, breaks the world record with a stunning 4.73 seconds.
