Road to the revolution timeline

  • The Enlightenment

    The Enlightenment
Cultural movement in the 18th century in the American colonies. Tried to reform society by using reason and advantages in science. 8/10 This is important because the Americans were trying to make their own sense of things without the British making up their minds for them, in how and what they think.
  • French and Indian War

Also known as the Seven Years War, was a war fought between the British America and the French while the Native Americans allied with the French. 4/10. I personally don't think this influenced the moventment towards revolution just because of all the events that happened after the war.
  • Proclamation Line of 1763

    Proclamation Line of 1763
Was when the British gave the land between the Mississippi River and the Appalachian Mountains to the Native Americans. The Line was the western border of the English colonies. 3/10, this didn't have much to do with the revolution.
  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
Was a direct tax on all goods, all printed documents like newspapers, fliers, mail, playing cards, etc. had to have a stamp on it,but the colonists boycotted British goods. 4/10
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre
The Boston Massacre wasn't really a massacre, it was a street fight between a mob of people throwing rocks, sticks, and snow and a group of British soldiers. Only 5 people were killed, but it led to speech writers to let people know how bad the British were. 8/10 because after this happened people started to see that the British would kill people anywhere. A town meeting was even called to demand the removal of the British and to trial the soldiers who shot for murder.
  • Tea Act

    Tea Act
It was supposed to just lower the produce of the British East India Company which was almost out of money and the taxes were going to help them get their money back, but then it got out of hand when the taxes got higher and higher. So the colonists left the tea to go bad at the dock and shipped it back to England. 6/10 because it was not okay for the British to do this, but at the same time they were still giving them tea, but doing this just to get more money isn't right .
  • Boston Tea Party

"The destruction of tea" It is when the when the Sons of Liberty dressed up as Native Indians and destroyed tea by throwing it into the Boston Harbor.
  • Intolerable Acts

    Intolerable Acts
After the British found out about the Boston Tea Party, they made 3 new acts to punish the colonists. 1) no trial by jury in all the colonies. 2) the Quartering Act. 3) Blockade of Boston which meant no ships at all were allowed to come in to the Boston Harbor or leave, which made things really hard for them. 7/10 because the colonists are starting to realize that the British really do have all the control over them, and it was not fair for the colonists.
  • First Continental Congress

    First Continental Congress
Delegates from 12 of the colonies came together in Philadelphia to talk about the Intolerable Acts. They then sent a letter to King george III asking if he would remove the acts, which he did'nt.. 5/10 it's not that important, but it shows that the King didn't care about to delegates from the colonies and would not listen to them.
  • Lexington and Concord

    Lexington and Concord
These were the 1st battles of the American Revlutionary War. They were fought in the towns of Lexington, Concord, Lincoln, Menotomy, and Cambridge. 9/10 This is important because the Americans are now fighting for their independence.
  • Declaration of Independence

    Declaration of Independence
A document written by Thomas Jefferson that states that the British shouldn't control the colonies and they had the right to become independent. 8/10
  • Second Continental Congress

    Second Continental Congress
The delegates met to talk about the battles in Massachusetts. They were split half and half on wanting independence. By the end of the meeting most men decided to support independence and wanted to write a decleration for it. 9/10 This was a big deal because the delegates finally agreed that they need a decleration of independence for the colonists and to get away from the British,
