  • Townshend Acts

    Townshend Acts
    Charles Townshend, the Chancellor of the Exchequer, proposed and enforced the Townshend Acts in 1767. These acts placed fines and taxes on regularly used goods. The money was use to pay back Britain for their soldiers and supplies in the French and Indian War. A war, that many colonists did not want.
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre
    (Also known as the incident on King Street) When British soldiers fired on unarmed colonists. The British Army killed five males and injured 6 others. It was the first time violence was used between the British and the colonists.
  • Boston Tea Party

    Boston Tea Party
    The Sons of Liberty dumped 342 chests of British tea into the harbor to protest the unfair taxation.
  • Quartering Act

    Quartering Act
    This act forced colonists to allow British soldiers into their homes whenever pleased. They had to feed and cloth them.
  • Battle at Bunker Hill

    Battle at Bunker Hill
    Despite the Patriots efforts, the British defeated the colonists at the Battle of Bunker Hill in Massachusetts. This set a dreary tone for the war.
  • Declaration of Independence

    Thomas Jefferson presents the Declaration of Independence from Great Britain.
  • Treaty of Paris

    Treaty of Paris
    The official document signed by both the United States and Great Britain that marked the end of the Revolutionary War. Although the United States had already deemed themselves free, it wasn't until this document that Great Britain did as well.
