    Enlightenment

    The Enlightenment, also known as the Age of reason, was a cultural movement of intellectuals that spread through many parts of the world in the 18th century. Many ideas sprouted during this time, such as the idea that peope are capable of ruling themselves. On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 would be the amount of influence it had on the revolution. It inspired people to act out for their rights, freedoms and opinions. Many ideas of the Enlightenment period are still alive today.

    The colonists in America were forbidden to cross over the land and settling west of the Appalachian Mountains to avoid any conflict with the Native Americans. This influenced the revolution by a 4 because, first of all, it was smart to make this law. The British were in a huge debt, however, taxing the colonists to regain the money is where they made the mistake.

    The Stamp Act was basically a law that all printed documents had to have a stamp. The Parliament passed this law to raise more money. On a scale of 1 to 10, this event's effect might as well been an 8. The more laws they passed, the more they angered the colonists.

    Angered by the new laws that The Parliament established, colonists protested and caused trouble for British soldiers. The British soldiers shot into the crowd, killing five people. On a scale of 1 to 10, this event might have influenced the revolution by an 8. The event worsened the protesting which might have lead to the Boston Tea Party.

    A law on the new tax on tea was passed. As a result, the colonists began to boycotting the British goods. This influenced the revolution by a 7. This event is the main cause of the Boston Tea Party.

    A group called the Sons of Liberty came together, dressed up as Mohawk Indians, and threw up tp three hundred cases of tea off the British boats and into the Boston Harbor. This event would be a 10 rating because it was successful and it gave people hope, even when the Boston Harbor was shut down.

    The British were infuriated by the Boston Tea Party. As a result, they instituted three new acts as a punishment to the colonists. On a scale of 1 to 10, I would give its influence on the revolution a 9. Going back and forth with the colonists only made them want to fight back even more.
  • First Continental Congress

    First Continental Congress
    Representatives from 12 colonies gathered together in Philadelphia to adress the new Intolerable Acts. They agreed on sending a letter to ask King George to repeal the acts,however, he didn't. This would've influenced the revolution by a 7. The colonists now know who they should go after.
  • Lexington and Concord

    Lexington and Concord
    British were sure that weapons were being stockpiled in Concord. They are confronted my farmers and militia members on the way there at Lexington. The defeated the farmers at Lexington, then defeated more at Concord. This affected the revolution by a 10 because by now, colonists might have lost hope.

    Representatives meet again to discuss the battles in Massachusetts. It was a 50/50 on the issue of independence. A majority of the representatives agreed on supporting the indepence and set up a committee to write the declaration. This affected the revolution by a 10 because now people have hope they will achieve freedom.

    Thomas Jefferson had presented his argument using ideas from the philosophies of Locke and Rousseau. Then he listed 27 examples of tyranny. In addition, he states that we not only had the right to become independent, but it was our responsibility to become independent. On a scale of 1 to 10, this influenced the revolution by a 10. This is the colonists' new start as an independent country.

    French and Indian War

    Tensions between the British and French settled in America grew as each side wanted to increase the amount of land they have. The Indians teamed up with the French against the British, but after 7 years of war, the British defeated the French and attempted to make peace with the Indians. On a scale of 1 to 10 this war had a 7 influence on the revolution. People weren't instantly inspired to stand up for their rights, but the French and Indian War gave them some hope.
