    The petition of rights was an English document setting out specific liberties. Rights granted include the following: Restrictions on taxation, forced quartering of soldiers, imprisonment without cause, and restrictions on law.
  • English Bill of Rights

    William and Mary signed the bill of rights and it gave the people the right to petition the government

    Benjamin franklin suggested the plan but was never fully put into effect. The 1st political cartoon was created by Benjemin Franklin about this plan and it said "Join or Die" over top of a picture of a severed snake.
  • French and Indian War

    French and Indian War
    Great Britain, and France were the major player in this conflict. Some of the major battles include Battle of Fort Necessity, Lake George, Fort Ticonderoga, and Fort Niagara. The British ultimately won this war. America was angry with Britain and refused to import British goods.
  • King George III Takes Power

    He set up the Royal Proclamation of 1763. this Proclamation forbided settlers from settling past a line on the Appalatian Mountains. It was also to set up the new Empire in North America and stablize a relationship with the Native Americans.

    The boston massacre was the killing of 5 colonists on a march night in 1770. british troops shot at a rioting crowd of colonists outside of a town hall. the acts being led by this event were Trial by Jury. This was an out break of tention brought on by the high british gaurd level recently added to the town.

    The event which caused these acts to be put in place by Great Britain was the rioting in Massachusetts. Provisions of these acts include closing of the British ports, restrictions on town meetings, and quartering acts.

    The delegates from 12 colonies (Georgia wasn’t present). Two accomplishments included boycott of British goods. And creation of a second continental congress. The meetings took place at Carpenters Hall in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
  • Second Continental Congress

    The Second Continental Congress was a meeting held after the battle of Lexington and concord in a state house in Philadelphia, PA now known as independence hall. Some of the ideas that came about include the idea to completely break away from Britain and put the colonies into a state of defense. Many colonial leaders were involved like Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin franklin, John Hancock, and Benedict Arnold.

    The articles of confederation was an agreement by the 13 founding states which stated that the United States of America was a confederation of sovereign states as its first constitution. John hansen was the 1st president under rule of these articles.

    The declaration of independence is a document adopted by the continental congress on July 4th 1776 which announced that the 13 colonies regarded themselves as independent states and no longer a part of the British Empire.
  • Lexington and Concord

    First major battle of the war and marked the beginning. Major generals involved were Lieutenant Colonel Francis Smith, and General Hugh Percy for Britain. Paul revere was a militiaman responsible for the midnight ride. On the evening of the battle he was instructed to ride throughout the town on horseback with either 1 or 2 lanterns to signal that the British were coming by either land or sea.

    The constitutional convention was a discussion tending to the fact that the Articles of confederation, which were written in 1777, needed to be replaced or modified largely.
