    Magna Carta

    King John I, signed the Magna Carta, It was signed in England. It promised that the king would govern and deal with his people according to the customs of fedual law. That he cant abuse his power.
  • Mayflower Compact

    Mayflower Compact
    This was written to prevent dissent from Puritans and non-separatist Pilgrims who landed at Plymouth a few days earlier. It was signed by 41 English Colonists, on the ship Mayflower, November 11th, 1620.
  • Petition of Rights

    Petition of RIghts was a petition put forth to give people freedoms. They got: No taxes without parliment's consent, No imprisonment without a cause, Soldiers cannot be put in private housing, and martial law can't be used in times of peace. King Charles I signed it, later violating the one thing he agreed to, by collecting taxes without Parliment.
  • English Bill of Rights

    Parliment passed the Bill of Rights December 16th 1689. King William III and Queen Mary II signed this bill. People gained the right to bare arms, (not so much anymore), it restricted the monarch from overriding, and it gave freedom from unjust punishment.
  • French Indian War Part Two

    This made Colonist-British tension, after being robbed of rights. It declined from there, eventually causing the Revolutionary war.
  • French Indian War Part One

    French Indian War Part One
    This war (the seven years war) started in 1756. Major players were the British and the French. Major Battles: Fort Necessity, George Washington was defeated, retreating to Virginia, starting the war. The Battle of the Wilderness: General Braddock died, 900 others wounded/killed. Massacre at Fort William Henry: Fort captured by the French. This had the British stop Colonists from moving Westward, for costly expenses reasons, but the Colonists thought they were being robbed from their rights.
  • Albany plan of Union

    This was a plan to make sure all colonies are together as one. Benjamin Franklin proposed this idea, but was never carried out. This never did happen, it was never finished/completed. This is illustrated by the popular political cartoon: "Join or Die".
  • King George III Takes Power

    King George irritated the colonists by certian laws he passed. He made one where they couldn't move past the Appalachian Mountains, and the Colonists who had already settled on
    these lands were ordered to return east of the mountains. He then in 1765 made it where they needed to find or pay for lodging for British soldiers in America, known as the Quartering act. This built tension.
  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
    LinkThings taxed with this Stamp Act: Anything the king thought was important. Tomatoes, Rum, Newspapers, Kerosine, Dice, Etc. This act was the first tax actually put onto the American people by the British government. The British were deep in debt, so they taxed anything to do with paper. Colonists insisted that the tax was unconstitutional, saying that they didn't have the right to tax North American colonies. Only American Representitives could do stuff. Parliment repealed later on from riots.
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre
    5 Colonists were killed here, A mob of about 60 angry citizens came to the guards at the customs house. When reinforcements were called, the crowd became more angry, chucking rocks and snowballs at the guards, enraging them causeing shots to be fired.
  • Boston Tea Party

    This all started when Massachusetts Patriots protested the Monopoly on American Tea. The group Massachusetts Patriots organized this, and got 3 ships full of tea and threw 342 chests of tea overboard into the harbor. The British sent warships to block the Boston harbor. They were furious.
  • Intolerable Acts

    LinkThe king was deciding a punishment for American Colonists rebelling and being rebellious. He decided after the Boston Tea Party to close the Boston Port, and others. Some of these acts were: Massachusetts Government Act: A change of location to Great Britain in the event of a jury trial. Quebec Act: Made west of Ohio River Quebec, and established Roman Catholic religion there which upset Colonists.
  • First Continental Congress

    First Continental Congress
    SiteThe first Continental Congress took place in early September (September 5th), and ended October 26th. Important people involved were John Adams, Samuel Adams, George Washington, and Patrick Henry, all were Patriots that were famous. Some results that we gained from these things were the Declaration of Rights. This gave us Life, Liberty, Property and the right to have our own taxes within the colonies.
  • First Continental Congress Part 2

    Site These patriots met in Philidelphia, PA to disguss these laws. Basically this was the first time people came together to be a congress in the Colonies.
  • Lexington and Concord

    Lexington and Concord
    LinkThe consequence of this event was the revolutionary war. This event sparked the whole war. No one knows who shot the gunshot heard around the world, but it caused 273 England soldiers to die, and 94 Americans to die. Paul Revere was one of the alarm men riding around. "The British are coming the British are coming!" Also known as red coats. Generals: Colonel Smith, Major Pitcairne and Lord Percy commanded the British Troops. Commanding the militia were Barrett, Buttrick, and Robinson.
  • 2nd Continental Congress

    The 2nd continental congress was held in Pennsylvania State House in Philadelphia. This was held after, and because of the revolutionary war started. There, they appointed George Washington as the leading commander, he volunteered with no pay. They decided not to make any drastic moves to start a major war, but they wanted to project themselves. Leaders involved: Sam Adams, John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, John Hancock, Patrick Henry, and George Washington were some.
  • Declaration of Independance

It's a statment adopted by the Continental Congress, announcing the colonies are no longer under British control. It's made up of 5 parts. Jefferson made the original copy.
  • Articles of Confederation

    Articles of Confederation
    The Articles of Confederation were documents presented that establish the functions of a working gov't outside the British. John Hanson was the first President to be under the articles.
  • Start of Constitutional Convention

    Americans recognized that the Articles of Confederation would need some changes, as the gov't had no power to tax, forign affairs, and no power for regulating commerce. Congress couldn't repay soldiers for the revolutionary war with this problem. So, they made this Constitutional Convention to make some changes. (We couldn't find the day.)
