    Magna Carta

    The Magna Carta was signed in June 1215. King John of England signed it at Runnymede near Windsor Castle. It stated no taxation without representation, prevented the king from taking property, people couldnt be put on trial without witnesses, and they could be punished only by a jury of their peers.
  • Mayflower Compact

    The purpose of the mayflower compact was because the pilgrims did not want a king or queen and they just wanted a government so they made rules. That is the reason they went to American was so that they could practice their own religion.
  • Petition of Rights

    It granted that no one is forced to pay a tax unless Parliament says they have to and that no freeman should be imprisoned unless he breaks the law. Soldiers should not be billeted on private persons and any commission to punish soldiers by martial law should be abolished. Charles I signed it.
  • English Bill of Rights

    The English Bill of Rights was signed in 1689 by King William III and Queen Mary II.It granted freedom from royal interference with the law, freedom to petition the Monarch, freedon from taxation by royal perogative, freedom from the standing army during times of peace, freedom for Protestants to bear arms, freedom to elect members of parliament without royal intervention, freedom of speech, freedom to have a fair trial or not to be punished without trial, and freedom from unjust punishment.

    Albany Plan of UnionAlbany Plan of the Union was suggested by Benjamin Franklin. This plan never happened. The political cartoon was called "Join or Die".
  • French and Indian War

    French and Indian War
    This war was between Great Brtitain and France. Different Indian tribes and groups sided with either or.Some of the major battles were Battle at Ft. Duquesne where the British were surrounded by the French-Canadian forces. Also, the Battle of Quebec where the British forces sieze Quebec in dramatic uphill attack. The last battle where the French forces were outnumbered and defeated in the Americas. The British ultimatley won this war. British heavily taxed the colonies because of the war.
  • King George III takes power

    He sets up Indian attacks on the colonists.
  • Stamp Act

    The Stamp Act required that the people pay a tax for every piece of printed paper they use. This includes newspapers, legal documents, ship's papers, stamps, and even playing cards. Colonial leaders reacted badly to this tax because they viewed it as a way Great Britain could get more money out of them.
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston MassacreThere were five colonists who were killed in the Boston Massacre. British troops were sent to Boston in 1768 to enforce unpopular taxation measures passed by a British parliament that lacked American representation.
  • Boston Tea Party

    Boston Tea Party
    The Sons of Liberty organized the Boston Tea Party by dressing up as Mohawk Indians and raided 3 ships and dumped 342 containers of tea because of the Tea Tax. The British responded by making the Intolerable Acts, which closed down the Boston Ports and destroyed the Massachusettes government.
  • Intolerable Acts

    The Boston Tea Party caused Parliament to pass the Intolerable Acts. The Intolerable Acts had the port of Boston closed until the damages were paid for the Boston Tea Party. They restricted the Massachusetts govetnment. The acts made British officials immune to prosecution in Massachusetts and it required the housing of British soldiers on demand.
  • First Continental Congress

    First Continental Congress
    Patrick Henry, George Washington, John Adams, and John Jay were some of the major personalities involved. A draft of a declaration of rights and grievances was established. The First Continental Congress was held in Carpenter's Hall in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
  • Lexington and Concord

    The battles at Lexington and Concord resulted in the start of the Revolutionary War. Francis Smith of the British and John Parker of the Americans were the generals involved in the battles. Paul Revere rode a horse throughout Lexington shouting "The British are coming!"
  • Second Continental Congress

    The Second Continental Congress took place in Philadelphia, PA in Independence Hall. Some of the ideas that came out of this meeting were the need for a Continental Army and the Olive Branch Petition. George Washington, John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, and Benjamin Franklin were some of the colonial leaders involved.
