    Magna Carta

    Magna Carta
    [http://www.historylearningsite.co.uk/magna_carta.htm](www.historylearningsite.co.uk/magna_carta.htm) King John of England signed the Magna Carta in England and the document gave people the rights such as: nobles could watch over the king, and they could also seize his castle if he didnt keep his word. The Magna Carta itself is just like the bill of rights in the U.S. in a way. It limits the power of the monarchy and ensures certain freedoms for the people.
  • Mayflower Compact

    Mayflower Compact
    The Mayflower compact was created by the pilgrims that came to America and wanted to create their own self-government. The purpose was to create their own laws and not be under the ruling of the king or queen. They created their own government.
  • Petition of Rights

    The rights of the Petition were 1.) No freedman shall pay a tax. 2.) No freedman shall be imprisoned contrary to the laws. 3.) Soldiers and sailors shall not be billeted on private persons. 4.) commisions to punish soldiers and sailors shall be abolished. King Charles I signed the document.

    The Bill of Rights is the collective name for the first ten amendments to the United States Constitution. King William and Queen Mary signed the bill into act. This act gave the people rights such as: freedom of religion, speech, press, assembly, and the right to keep and bear arms.
  • Albany Plan of Union

    Albany Plan of Union
    The Albany Plan of Union was during the French and Indian war and was written by Benjamin Franklin. The purpose was to unite the colonies during the war and was the framework for the Articles of Confederation. The plan however never happened and failed. The cartoon related too this event was the join or die image, which encouraged former colonies to unite against British rule.

    French and Indian War
    The war was fought primarily between the colonies of British America and New France.Some of the major battles were the battle at Fort Necessity, the battle of the Wilderness, Battle at Oswego, and the capture of Quebec. Initially the British won this war but the cost of it forced the British to tax American colonists. This event made our relationship with the British very fragile, colonists were at their tipping point of rebellion.
    This helped spark the American revolution where we really won.
  • King George III takes power

    King George III had trouble paying for the War and taxed the British people which caused tyranny from within. The war allowed the new englishmen to realize it caused problems in their old homeland and the whole thing was more of a big parliament. The war allowed freedom to have a new meaning in America.
  • Stamp Act

    The stamp act taxed every peice of printed paper used. The colonists were very offended because the actual cost of the act was so small. This act helped spark rebellion in many colonists towards the British.
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre
    The Boston Massacre was the result of tensions that had been growing between the colonist and the English troops since the troops first appeared in Massachusetts in October 1768. The soldiers were in Boston to keep order, but townspeople viewed them as a threat. Five colonists were killed in the massacre. The Stamp act, and the Townshend act were being protested and eventually led to this tragedy.

    http://www.boston-tea-party.org/The Tea Party took place place when a group of Massachusetts Patriots, protesting the monopoly on American tea importation recently granted by Parliament to the East India Company, seized 342 chests of tea in a midnight raid on three tea ships and threw them into the harbor. The event was organized by the sons of liberty in Boston. After this the British responded with the Coercive Acts, or Intolerable Acts. This escalated and eventually the Revolutionary war began.

    Intolerable Acts
    The British passed these acts to punish the colonists after the Boston Tea party occurred. The provisions of these acts included the closing of Boston's ports until the colonists paid for the tea, the british restricted the colonists to have any meetings, the british were allowed to be housed wherever they wanted in any colonists home, and the British, who were accused of crimes, were able to go back to Britain for sentencing.
  • First Continental Congress

    First Continental Congress
    The first Continental Congress met in Carpenter's Hall in Philadelphia. Twelve of the thirteen colonies were represented at the meeting, as Georgia decided not to attend. The result of this meeting was the Galloway Plan of Union and the Declaration of Rights and Grievences. They also planned on meeting again at the Second Continental Congress.
  • Lexington and Concord

    The result in this battle was that the american colonists gained their independence from the British. Paul Revere was the one who sounded the alarm to let the colonists know that the British were coming. Some of the major generals were Joseph Warren, Samuel Adams and John Hancock.
  • Second Continental Congress

    This took place in the city of brotherly love, Philadelphia, PA. A major idea of this conference was to create a strong militia out of the untrained men. The main colonial leaders were Benedict Arnold and Ethan Allen.
