    Magna Carta

    The Magna Carta was signed by King John in Runnymead, England in 1215. It is considered the first written Constitution in European history. It gave the subjects property rights, and protected subjects against royal abuse of power.
  • Mayflower Compact

    Mayflower Compact
    The Mayflower Compact was the first framework of government for the United States. It was created to prevent dissent between Puritans and Pilgrims who lived in Plymouth.
  • Petition of Rights

    The Petition of Rights granted the rights to no unlawful imprisionments, and no tax without common consent of Parliment. This document was signed by King Charles the first.
  • English Bill of Rights

    The English Bill of Rights was signed by Parliment. It gave people basic rights, some including: no royal interference, no taxation by Royal Perogitive, freedom of petition, no standing army, etc.

    Albany Plan of Union
    The Albany Plan of Union was suggested by Ben Franklin. This plan was rejected and therefore, never took place. The popular political cartoon is a separated snake with the slogan, "Join or Die", it was also created by Ben Franklin.

    The conflicting sides in this war were Britian and French. Some of the major battles included: Louisburg, Fort Bull, Jumonville Glen, etc. The winner of the this war was primarly the British. This event changed our views with the British by strengthening it because we removed European rivals.

    After the French and Indian War, King George III changed the relationship between the British and the colonies by removing European rivals in the North and South, the American colonies became stronger.
  • Stamp Act

    The Stamp Act caused taxation on all paper documents. The colonial leaders reacted by protests in the streets, petitions, and the Sons of Liberty hanged a efigy of Andrew Oliver, the stamp distributor.
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre 5 people died in the Boston Massacre, three in the actual war and two from injuries a week later. The British Townshed Acts were the reason for this event.
  • Boston Tea Party

    The Massachusettrs Pariots entitled the Sons of Liberty was the political group that organized the event. The British responded by punishing the city of Boston, using troops to keep the peace, and seek justice, but only if the Colonial courts were in agreement with the Crown.

    The major personalities involved included: John Adams, George Washington, Samuel Adams, John Hancock, John Jay, Alexander Hamilton, Thomas Jefferson, Ben Franklin, James Madison, and Patrick Henry. This meeting established the Declaration of Rights. This meeting took place in Philadelphia.
  • Intolerable Acts

    Intolerable Acts
    The British passed these acts because of the Boston Tea Party and other acts of destruction to British property by the Americans. The provisions of these acts included: Massachusetts could not hold town meetings, Port of Boston closed until debts were paid from Tea Party, and colonists had to house troops on British demand.
  • Lexington and Concord

    The result of these conflicts was the American Revolutionary War. The major generals involved were Colonel Smith, Major Pitcairne and Lord Percy. Paul Revere rode through the villages to warn them that the British were coming on his way to Concord and Congress.

    This meeting took place in Philadelphia. The leaders involved were George Washington and John Adams, as well as all of the other people from the First Continental Congress. Ideas created during this meeting were preserving the Congress's rights by dint of arms, and creating a continental army.

    The Treaty of Paris
    The United States was represented by John Adams, Ben Franklin, and John Jay. This treaty caused all the territory from the Allegany Mountains to the Mississippi River to become the new boundries of the U.S.. The document the British finally recongized was the Declaration of Independence.

    Start of Constitutional Convention
    The delagates from five states met together to discuss possible improvements to be made to the Articles of Confederation at the Annapolis Convention. The original purpose of the Convvention was to peacefully over throw the new American Government as defined by the Articles of Confederation.
