    Colonists could not go east of the Appalacian mountains because there was no more security provided for them. This meant no new settlements east of the mountains.

    Sugar Act

    It was a 3 cent tax that was put onto refined sugar. It also ended up taxing indigo and coffee as well.
  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act

    You needed to pay a tax on stamps that were on certain documents. This brought outrage to the colonists, they took to the streets burning all thier stamps.
  • Quartering Act

    Quartering Act

    This angered the colonists. It said that the colonists must find a living space for the british soldiers to settle down because they were stationed there in America.

    Parliment takes away the Stamp Act but it has the right to tax colonies.
  • Townshend Act

    Townshend Act

    The British government placed duties on tea, glass, lead,paper and paint to help pay for the administration of colonies.
  • The Boston massacre

    The Boston massacre

    There was a large group of angered colonists that were taking it out on a group of British soldiers nearby. They threw rocks at the soldiers and shots rang out, killing 5 colonists. This became "The shot heard round the world"

    This was the final draw for the colonists in this series of acts placed on them as burdens. This act allowed the British East India company to pay lower taxes for thier tea. Thus making other tea companies obsoulete and allowed them to dominate the market.

    The colonists took it to themselves for justice. One night they disguised themselves as mohawk indians and boarded an East India company ship loaded with tea. They threw it all into the Boston harbour to get back at them.
  • Coercive Act

    Coercive Act

    Their was 4 acts called the Boston Port act, Massachusetts Government act, Administration of Justice act and the Quartering act as well. It closed the port of Boston, then gave alot more royal government control over Massachusetts. This pushed the colonists over the edge.
