    French and Indian war lead to large debt . Debt led to taxing the colonists. Taxing without representation.

    The Proclamation of 1763
    It banned all colonists from settling or moveing west of the Appliation Mountains. The colonists felt that Britian had no right to do this and they could live where they wanted. They knew that it was impossible for the British to enforce this and moved there anyway.

    The British pat a tox on sugar, molassess and other things, included harsh punishments for smugglers.

    Colonists had to buy an additional stam for documents like newspapers, will, contra ts and even playing cards. The colonists felt this was an unfair tax. Demanded the tax to be repealed. They burned stamped paper and held the "Stamp Act Congress" in New York City

    Required colonists to house and feed the British soldiers. The colonists felt that their rights as English citizens have been violated and some refused to let soldiers stay in their homes
  • Townshend Act

    Townshend Act
    Britain will not tax goods in the colonies, but they put a Tax on imports. They taxed lead, glass, tea and other things. The Writs of Assistance let the British customs officials search ships. This was still a TAX! The Colonist's felt their rights were still being violated. They smuggled goods into the colonies anyway.
