  • The Sugar Act

    The Sugar Act
    Also known as the American Revenue Act, it raised taxes by reducing the rate by half and increasing measures to enforce the tax. It was much more effective than the Molasses Act of 1733.

    This was a series of acts made to regulate paper money issued by the colonies of British America. The policy created tension between the colonies and Great Britain.

    The Parliment passed the Quartering Act. It stated that each Assembly or area needed to provide for all soldiers within its borders.

    This act was made by the Parliment to impose taxes upon colonists. This enraged them and gave flame to the revolution.

    The Stamp Act imposed a direct tax by the British Parliament towards the colonists. It made most printed materials in the colonies be produced on stamped paper produced in London, carrying a revenue stamp.

    The Parliment used this act to replace the Sugar Act, and it stated that Parliament's authority was the same in America as in Britain- it could pass laws, and such. This caused fury among the colonists just as the Sugar Act did.

    The Townshend Acts were a series of acts passed by the Parliament of Great Britain, they are the Revenue Act of 1767, the Indemnity Act, the Commissioners of Customs Act, the Vice Admiralty Court Act, and the New York Restraining Act.They were made to create a more effective means of enforcing compliance with trade regulations, punish New York for failing to agree with the 1765 Quartering Act, and to make aware that the British Parliament had the right to tax the colonies.
