    The French and Indian War
    The French and Indian War was the American theater of the Seven Year War, between the English and French colonies. Both sides were supported by multiple native tribes, thus the French and Indian War.

    This was when Britain declared a line separating the English colonies from the French colonies following the French and Indian wars. The divide ran straight through the Appalachian mountains. Now English couldn't colonize past this line.
  • The Sugar Act

    The Sugar Act was a law put in place to end the smuggling of sugar and molasses from the French and Dutch west indies. This gave a monopoly to the British west indies sugarcane plantations. Colonists demanded lower prices but were rejected!

    The Stamp act was a tax put in place by the Crown that imposed a tax on any printed products, in the form of a required stamp, that was taxed heavily. This gained such a negative reaction from the colonists, that the colonists formed a congress and were able to repeal the act, a strategy that would fail to work later.

    The Townshend acts were a series of taxes and acts imposed after the Stamp Act, that put a heavy tax on imported goods. The colonists saw these acts as a sort of abuse of power, as they had no representation in the acts' creation and commencement.

    The Boston Massacre was an event in which the colonists provoked the British to fire upon them, killing at least seven men. This caused infuriation within the colonies, and it would only get worse.
  • The Tea Act

    As a result of a tea monopoly from Holland and an oversupply of tea in the East India Company, the English imposed an act that would prevent the purchase of tea from anywhere but the East India Company. This caused further outrage in the colonies, as no longer could third party tea sellers in the colonies sell their tea.

    As a result of outrage from the Tea Act, The Sons of Liberty(a band of rowdy patriots) staged a protest in Boston Harbor, by throwing millions worth of tea overboard the docked ships. This was terrible for the English, as they lost a massive amount of tea, money, and taxes.

    These were acts in direct retaliation to the Boston Tea Party. These included such travesties as: having to quarter soldiers in your home, closing Boston Harbor, A debt needing to be repaid by the residents of Boston, and a completely new government for Massachusetts.
  • First Continental Congress

    First Continental Congress
    The First Continental Congress was a meeting of colonial delegates in response to the intolerable acts. They discussed trade, the acts, and the boycott of British imports. The boycott was one of the major steps to revolution.
