  • Founding of The Colonies

    The Founding Colonies were places where people would settle down to escape religious persecution. The first colony was in Jamestown, Virginia.
  • "No taxation without Representation"

    Colonists protested that if they were taxed they should have all laws and freedom that British citizens had.
  • The French and Indian War

    A war between the French and Indians vs the British. It started because the British wanted to take land from the French.
  • Acts of Parliament

    These acts passed laws that placed taxes on everything that was bought. These taxes were placed to pay for the damages of war.

  • Boston Tea Party

    This was a protest because of the taxes on tea. In Boston colonists dressed up as Mohawks and dumped 17,000 bricks of tea into the harbor.
  • Boston Blockade

    The British closed the port of any supplies until the colonists paid over $1 million (today's money) to pay for the tea dumped in the harbor.
  • Intolerable Acts

    The Intolerable Acts were laws passed to punish the colonist for the Boston Tea Party and other protests
  • First Continental Congress

    Delegates from each colony held a meeting in Philadelphia to organize resistance against the Intolerable Acts.
  • Paul Revere's "Ride"

    In North America, Paul Revere and William Dawes went to warn the residents that the British regulars were on there ways to Lexington and Concord.
  • Lexington and Concord

    This event was when 700 British Troops stormed into Lexington. They commanded the colonists to put there weapons down. An anonymous person shot and then all chaos broke loose.
  • Thomas Paine's "Common Sense"

    This event is when Thomas Paine wrote a statement telling Great Britain for independence. In this statement Thomas used simple words to ask for freedom.
