    The Road to Revolution lasted from 1763 to 1776. In these 14 years the colonists were done with being under the British rule and decided to fight for their freedom.
  • French and Indian War

    French and Indian War
    The French and Indian War was a fight between the British and French. The war was on North American land and the war is how the British gained control of the colonies.
  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
    The Stamp Act was a tax that colonists were forced to pay. The tax was on paper. In this time period, paper was used for almost everything. Like cards, letters, envelopes, etc. The colonists started to protest the Stamp Act and they formed a group called Sons of Liberty. This group started a trend where colonies could not buy things made in England. This hurt England’s economy greatly and they were forced to repeal the Stamp act.

    Sons/Daughters of Liberty
    The Sons/Daughters of Liberty was a group who protested the Stamp Act started boycotting things manufactured in Britain. People didn’t buy anything made in Britain and this hurt England’s economy. In response, the Stamp Act got repealed.

    Townshend Act
    The Townshend Act was placed by the British government. The act placed new laws and took away some of the colonists freedoms. The act also placed new taxes on the colonists. The taxes were on paper, glass, tea, paint, and lead. The tax on tea angered the colonists the most because they drink tea everyday.

    The Boston Massacre was when a group of colonists attacked a British soldier. In response, the soldier fired a gun at them which killed a boy. After the the soldiers started shooting at the colonists and lots of people were killed.

    The Boston Tea Party was when the colonists found out about the British trying to sneak in tea into the colonies. In response, the colonists dressed up as Indians and threw 342 chests of tea into the Boston Harbor.

    The Intolerable act was placed by the British after the Boston Tea Party. This was in place to set laws and punish the Massachusetts Colonists for throwing tea over the harbor.

    The First Continental Congress was a group of powerful men who met in Philadelphia. These men wrote the Declaration of Independence and they started the boycott of British goods. Which mean’t they did not use, eat or drink anything British.
  • Battle of Lexington and Concord

    Battle of Lexington and Concord
    The Battle of Lexington was the first battle of the war. Nobody knows who fired the first shot, but it was known as “the shot heard around the world.” 8 patriots died and more were injured. The Patriots were forced to retreat. The Redcoats tried to burn supplies that belonged to the Patriots in Concord. But the Patriots found out and surprise attacked them and 1/3 of redcoats died or were injured.

    The Declaration of Independence was a letter to the English asking for freedom and separation from Britain’s rule. The Declaration of Independence was written by the Second Continental Congress which was also made up of powerful men from the colonies.
