  • 7 Years War

    -French and Natives allied in a war against the British.
    -Causes of this war were land competition, control of N. American trade routes, alliance with Native tribes, European wars, and being traditional enemies.
    -Britain spent $8 million on war, makes colonists pay it back by taxing everything.
    - After the war, Britain leaves troops in colonies.
  • Proclamation of 1763

    • Ends westward expansion
    • Forbids settlement in Ohio river valley
    • Strict enforcement needed for tax collection; end salutary neglect.
  • Sugar Act

    • Lowers taxes from molasses act
    • Goal; decrease smuggling
    • Indirect tax; added into cost of sugar
