  • Creation of the First Continental Congress

    Delegates from each of the 13 colonies met in Philadelphia to organize colonial resistance to Parliament's Coercive Act. This all happened on September 5, 1774
  • Lexington and Concord

    The first battle of the revolutionary war, fought in Massachusetts on April 19, 1775, the British troops moved from Boston To Lexington and Concord to get the colonists’ military supplies and to arrest revolutionaries

    This was a convention of delegates from the 13 colonies that formed in Philadelphia in May of 1775. It was shortly after the launch of the American Revolutionary war.

    A battle in Massachusetts on June 17, 1775 in which the British defeated the Americans.
  • Olive Branch Petition

    Olive Branch Petition
    John Dickinson drafted it. It was submitted to King George on July 8, 1775 and the purpose was to attempt to assert the rights of the colonist while maintaining their loyalty to the British Crown

    This advocated independence from Great Britain to people in the 13 colonies. Thomas Paine encouraged common people in the colonies to fight for egalitarian government. January 10, 1776

    This was adopted by the Continental Congress on July 4, 1776. This declaration summarized the colonists’ motivations for seeking Independence
