Road to Revolution

  • The French and Indian War

    The French and Indian War
    A war lasting seven years between France and the British Empire. It ended with the treaty of Paris, but during the war it provided lots of land for the British Empire.
  • The Proclamation of 1763

    The Proclamation of 1763
    A proclamation issued by King George lll as a British-produced boundary mark. It was marked by the Appalachian Mountains at the Eastern Continental Divide.
  • The Sugar Act

    The Sugar Act
    It was known to be a revenue-raising act, being passed by the Parliament of Great Britain. So, the British legislation tried to end the trade of sugar and molasses to other people because they want to grow their own British economy, instead of trading with others.
  • Stamp Act of 1766

    Stamp Act of 1766
    British Parliament had passed this stamp act to help regain their finances after the seven years of war with France. Part of the act was to regain several soldiers in North America to keep peace between the colonists and the Native Americans.
  • Townshend Acts of 1767

    Townshend Acts of 1767
    They were a series of measures being passed by the British Parliament. These measures were to tax goods and import them to the American colonies. But, the Americans who had no representation in Parliament, took this as a bad sign of power.
  • The Boston Massacre

    The Boston Massacre
    This was a confrontation of which British soldiers shot and killed several people when they were being harassed in Boston. Doing this, the event became very popular and highly publicized by people like Paul Revere and Samuel Adams.
  • Tea Act

    Tea Act
    This was an Act done by Parliament and Great Britain to reduce the amount of tea, to reduce finances. The company of this tea got the right to to ship their tea directly to the colonies, without first landing it.
  • Boston Tea Party

    Boston Tea Party
    The Boston Tea Party was a political protest occurring obviously in a wharf in Boston. This was done by the American Colonists because they were done and frustrated with the British holding, "taxation without representation." Having all that tea imported from Britain because they didn't want it. 342 chests of tea were dumped in this event.
  • Intolerable Acts

    Intolerable Acts
    These acts were laws passed by the British Parliament, after the riot of the Boston Tea Party. These created laws were meant to punish Massachusetts colonists because of their decision of protest during the Boston Tea Party.
  • 1st Continental Congress

    1st Continental Congress
    This event of the 1st Continental Congress was a meeting between 12 of the 13 British colonies. This meeting ended up becoming the coming together of the United States, and the meeting of forming it.
