    The French and Indian War was used to provide Great Britain a large amount of territorial gains in North America. Disputes over the frontier policy and paying the wars expenses led to colonial displeasure.

    The Sugar Act was the British legislative aiming at ending the smuggle trade of sugar and molasses from the French and Dutch West Indies. This act successfully reduced smuggling but it still had a great affect on the economy of the American colonies by increasing the cost of imported items.

    The stamp act was a law passed by the British parliament to help pay for British troops stationed in colonies during the Seven Years’ War. This made the colonists pay taxes represented by a stamp.

    After months of protest and an appeal by Benjamin Franklin. Parliament ended up repealing the Stamp Act. The same day parliament passed the Declaratory Acts. This meant that the British Government had full legislative power over the colonies.

    The Boston Massacre occurred because British soldiers held open fire in Boston on a group of American colonists resulting in the death of five men. Before the massacre the British instituted new taxes on the American colonies. The taxes included tea, glass, paper, paint, and lead.

    The Boston Tea Party was a protest involving the frustrations of American colonists because of Britain imposing “taxation without representation.” This resulted in dumping 342 chests of tea into the harbor, that were imported by the British East India company.

    The Intolerable Acts are a series of laws passed by the British Parliament. The acts were made to make an example of the colonies after the Boston Tea Party. This caused a major push that led to the American Revolution.

    The First Continental Congress was a close group among the colonies that boycott the British goods in the beginning of December 1, 1774.

    The battles of Lexington and Concord took place
    The battle of Lexington and Concord was the start of the Revolutionary War. The British Army went away from Boston to capture the rebel leaders known as Samuel Adams and John Hancock in Lexington. They also went to destroy the Americans base of weapons and ammunition in Concord.

    The battle of bunker hill was just a few months after the Revolutionary War began. The British took two hills, Bunker Hill and Breed’s Hill, with the intention of gaining a tactical advantage. The American force heard and went to defend the hills.
  • The Declaration of Independence was adopted

    The Declaration of Independence was adopted
    The Continental Congress formally accepted the Declaration of Independence that was written by Thomas Jefferson. The vote for actual independence was on July 2nd. After that the 4th became the day that is celebrated as the birth of American independence.
