    The Magna Carta

    The Magna Carta
    The Magna Carta was signed in South England. This made all laws apply to everyone no matter their social class. This gave a fair opportunity to everyone. This failed to resolve issues between King John and his barons but it helped in other ways.
  • Mayflower Compact

    Mayflower Compact
    Signed aboard the Mayflower by almost all men. In promise to write a new constitution along with many other things. The original compact was lost but three versions still exist.
  • Petition of Rights

    Petition of Rights
    Was signed by King Charles. Freedom from royal interference with the law, petition the Monarch, taxation by royal prerogative, and standing army during times of peace were some rights granted under this petition.
  • English Bill Of Rights

    Parliament went to sign a Bill of Rights December 16th. This gave freedom of speech and debate. It was also so the British could not tax America. This limited the power of the English sovereign. This was a root of the, First through sixth, and eighth amendment.
  • Albany Plan of Union

    Albany Plan of Union
    This was suggested by Benjamin Franklin as a plan to place the British North American colonies under a centralized government. This plan ended up failing. The political cartoon “Join Or Die” was most commonly associated with this plan.
  • The French Indian War

    The French, Americans, and Indians were the major role takers in this war. Virginia and Plains of Abraham were two major battles in this war. It changed the relationship with the British because they had to tax the colonist heavily to clean up form the war.
  • Stamp Act

    VideoThe stamp act was passed by British parliament. All Americans had to pay a tax on every piece of paper printed. Franklin gave grudging acquiescence’s to the plan as he was not a fan of it. This caused more issues then the sugar act.
  • King George the III takes power

    King George taxed colonies without representation action and caused America’s revolutionary war. The French and Indian war caused the British to fight against themselves which made the king angry.
  • The Bostan Masacure

    This massacre resulted in the death of five with three hurt. British troops occupied Boston causing the massacre to break out. Townshend acts were also broke causing commotion among the people. In the end this was not too brutal of a massacre.
  • The Bostan Tea Party

    The Bostan Tea Party
    Around 342 chests of tea were thrown into the Boston harbor. The sons of Liberty organized this event. The British responded by the intolerable acts which closed the Boston ports and destroyed government.
  • Intolerable Act

    Intolerable Act
    This was in response to the Boston Tea Party. Four acts enforced on the Colonists from King George the III, to punish them for the Boston Tea Party. All of Boston's Ports until the colonist's payed for the tea they destroyed during the Boston Tea Party. The second one was the British restricted colonist to have government meetings. The British were also allowed to have troops stay in the colonist’s houses whenever they wanted. They let British officials accused of crimes stand trial in Britain,
  • First Continental Congress

    First Continental Congress
    All 12 colonies except Georgia were present. This meeting was held at Carpenters’ hall in Philadelphia. This was held in response to the Intolerable Acts. There weren’t any immediate results so a second one was held.
  • Lexington and Concord

    Also known as the shot heard around the world. This all started from a British Major arriving at Lexington finding farmers in battle formation. Thomas Gage, Samuel Adams, John Hancock and Paul Revere were all big parts in this battle. Paul was one of many riders who road their horses out to warn everyone.
  • Second Continental Congress

    This took place where the first one did In Philadelphia PA. This meeting mostly managed the colonial war effort and lead to adopting Declaration of Independence. Peyton Randolph, Charles Thomson, Benjamin Franklin, John Hancock were the names most commonly associated with this meeting.

    : John Hanson would be the first president’s signature under this document. This was the first constitution adopted by the United States. This only lead to a loose confederation when they were needing a stronger government

    This starts in Philadelphia; it is a convention of united statesmen who were drafting the U.S. Constitution.
