    After an atomic bomb was dropped in Japan, they finally surrendered. The state of war finally ended between Japan and the USA with the Treaty of San Francisco. Four more years passed and Japan and the Soviet Union signed the Soviet- Japanese Joint Declaration of 1956, which fromally brought an end to the state of war.

    Representatives of 50 countries met in San Francisco at the meeting to draw up the United Nations Charter. It came into existence on 24 October 1945, when the Charter had been ratified by China, France, the Soviet Union, the United Kingdom, the United States and by a majority of other signatories. It is celebrated on the 24th of October every year.

    Series of surprise attacks by North Vietnam and by the Vietcong. It was a military campaign launched during the Vietnam War. They were against South Vietnam.

    The capture of Saigon by the Vietnam People's Army ended this war. North and South Vietnam were united the following year. The Paris Peace Accords were signed.
