He wrote the fourth book around 426. The first three books stipulate that truth must be found in Scripture. These books therefore present a theory of invention that builds upon Christian revelation (supposing that truth is revealed in the Bible) but that also promotes Ciceronian techniques of invention to resolve ambiguities
