  • Ride of Paul Revere

    Paul Revere rode through the country warning Americans the British were coming.
  • Battles of Lexington and Concord

    This is where the first shots were fired. The British won Lexington but were forced to retreat when they got to Concord.
  • Fort Ticonderoga

    New York fort that was seized by the British in the French and Indian War. In the Revolutionary War the Americans captured it back and was there first official victory of the war.
  • Meeting of the Second Continental Congress

    Met in Philadelphia when the war started and created the Continental Army led by George Washington. Out of these meetings came Declaration of Independence, Articles of Confederation, and the Marine Corps.
  • Battle of Bunker Hill

    This Battle lasted two days. The British took Breed's Hill which is now known as Bunker Hill.

    Thomas Paine's pamphlet "Common Sense" furthered the Revolutionary cause.
  • British evacuate Boston

    On this day in 1776, British forces are forced to evacuate Boston following General George Washington’s successful placement of fortifications and cannons on Dorchester Heights, which overlooks the city from the south.
  • Richard Henry Lee proposes Independence

    On June 7, 1776, Richard Henry Lee of Virginia, introduced this resolution in the Second Continental Congress proposing independence for the American colonies.

    Document declaring the 13 Colomnies idenpendent from Britain. Written by Thomas Jefferson. Britain's response to the document was to continue with the war.
  • British win Battle of Harlem Heights

    Early in the morning of September 16, 1776, General George Washington began composing a letter to the President of Congress. "We are now encamped with the main body of the army on the Heights of Harlem," Washington explained, "where I should hope the enemy would meet with a defeat in case of an attack."1 The Continental Army had retreated to the northern end of Manhattan following its humiliating loss at the Battle of Long Island the previous month.

  • British capture Fort Washington, NY and Fort Lee, NJ

    The Battle of Fort Washington was a battle fought in New York on November 16, 1776 during the American Revolutionary War between the United States and Great Britain. It was a British victory that gained the surrender of the remnent of the garrison of Fort Washington near the north end of Manhattan Island.
  • Capture of Trenton

    Washington crossed the Delaware River on Christmas night. The Americans surprised a Hessian force. The Battle Lasted 45 minutes and the Americans won.
  • Washington wins Battle of Princeton

    n a stroke of strategic genius, General George Washington manages to evade conflict with General Charles Cornwallis, who had been dispatched to Trenton to bag the fox (Washington), and wins several encounters with the British rear guard, as it departs Princeton for Trenton, New Jersey.
  • American wins Fort Stanwix and Bennington

    The Siege of Fort Stanwix (also known at the time as Fort Schuyler) began on August 2, 1777, and ended August 22. Fort Stanwix, in the Mohawk River Valley, was then the primary defense point for the Continental Army against British and Indian forces aligned against them in the American Revolutionary War.
