    Mercantilism Theory
    An economic theory in whcih a country desires more exports than imports, in order to keep a good circulation of money.
  • Salutary Neglect

    Salutary Neglect
    Britain decided to give the colonies freedom. The government wasn't as controlling as it was in it's own country. Salutory neglect is what gave the colonists the desire for self-government.
  • French and Indian War

    French and Indian War
    The Britisn and French fought against each other for control over land and trade. Both sides had Native American allies, and each had won key battles. The Treaty of Paris ended te war in 1763.
  • Proclamation of 1763

    Proclamation of 1763
    This document banned all settlement west of the Appalachians. This established a proclamation line, where colonists couldn't cross. This helped resolve conflicts between the Native Americans.
  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
    This act required colonists to buy a special stamped paper for every legal document, license, pamphlet, almanac, and newspaper. This is rallied the colonists to form The Sons of LIberty to rebel against Britain.
  • Quartering Act

    Quartering Act
    This act forced colonists to shelter soldiers. This also included food, clothing, washing, etc. This enraged the colonies, and caused many protests.

    This was a group of colonists that eventually convinced Britain to repeal the Stamp Act, but later on Britain issued the Declatory Act.

    This Act stated that Britain had the power to pass any laws, whether or not they were binding on the American colonies. Once again, the colonies got really, really, mad. Geez. Did they think they would be happy about this?
  • Townshend Acts

    Townshend Acts
    The Townshend Acts were a series of acts passed by Britain. they were named after Charles Townshend, who proposed this idea. These were meant to raise revenue in the colonies to pay the salaries for governers and judges, so they would remain loyal to Britain. And, of course, the colonies got mad once more.
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre
    The Boston Massacre was when armed British soldiers opened fire on a group of unarmed colonists. Five colonists were killed in the incident. Tensions were already high, but for some reason these soldiers thought this was a justified thing to do. Don't ask me, I have NO clue they were thinking.

    This Act was to help the British East India Company sell it's massize surplus of tea, and also get the taxes from the Townshend Acts.
  • Boston Tea Party

    Good 'ol America. Britain makes us pay more for tea and what do we do? Dress up like Indians and dump it all in the harbor! This was a political protest by the Sons of Liberty to get Britain to repeal the Tea Act.

    This Acts were issued to punish the colonies for the Boston Tea Party. The Colonists thought this was a direct violation of their rights.

    This was a convention of twelve delegates from twelve colonies, in response to the Intolerable Acts. The delegates thought of several things, such as boycotting, and a petition to repeal the intolerable acts.

    Battles of Lexington and Concord
    These were the first battles on the American Revolutionary War. The colonies had started secretly training a militia, and once Britain got word of this, they immediatly sent lots of troops to stop them. Surprisingly, Massachusetts won these battles.

    Thomas Paine writes Common Sense.
    Thomas Paine wrote this in order to convince the colonists to free themselves from Britain. He wrote this in a way that common people would understand, and this book really got all the colonies to work together and start trying to get independence.

    This was the extremely important document that separated us from Britain, after we crushed them in the American Revolutionary War. A LOT of important people signed this, and this about ends the war.

    The American Revolution ended when the Treaty of Paris was signed. British gave up a lot of conquered land in tthis treaty.
