  • Proclamation of 1763

    The Proclamation of 1763 was a law passed in 1763 by the king of England. It basically closed off the Western frontier to exploration and colonization. It also ended the French and Indian War, and defined four new colonies.
  • Sugar Act

    The Sugar Act was a tax passed by Parliament in 1764. It stated that colonial merchants would need to pay 6 pence per gallon as a tax on foreign molasses. This meant that the English molasses would be cheaper than the West Indies product, and this hurt their economy as well as the colonies. The act also expanded to several other goods, like coffee, sugar, and wine.
  • Stamp Act

    The Stamp Act was a tax passed in 1765 by British Parliament, but it was proposed by Prime Ministr Grenville. This meant that every newspaper and document that was printed would be taxed at least one shilling up to 10 pounds. Documents were an important part of colonist life, and this angered people because they didn't have money to pay.
  • Quartering Act

    The Quartering Act was a law passed by the British Parliament in 1765. It stated that the colonists would be forced to house and feed the British soldiers serving in America. This angered the colonies even further.
  • The Townshend Act

    The Townshend Act is an act for granting certain duties in the British Colonies and plantations in American. Taxes on glass, oil, lead, paper, and tea were applied with the design of raising 40,000 pounds a year for the administration of the colonies.
  • Boston Massacre

    The Boston Massacre was a street fight that occurred on March 5th between a Patriot mob and a squad of British soldiers, which led to throwing snowballs, stones, and sticks. Several colonists were killed during this time and it led to a campaign by speech-writers to awaken the agner of the citizenry.
  • Boston Tea Party

    The Boston Tea Party happened on December 16 when a group of Massachusetts Patriots, protesting the monopoly of American Tea importation recently granted by the Parliament to the East Indian Company, and seized 342 chests of tea on a sudden midnight attack on three ships and threw the tea into the harbor.
  • Intolerable Acts

    The Intolerable Acts were laws that were really punishments that King George lll put on the colonies. He did this to the coloniest because he wanted to punish them for dumping tea into the harbor at the Boston Tea Party.
