    Treaty of Paris 1763
    Britain, France, and French ally Spain, sign treaty to end French and Indian War and 7 Year's War. France turns over Canada and all land east of the Mississippi River to Britain, New Orlean and the mouth of the Mississippi is given to France. British give back Cuba to Spain in trade for Florida.

    Proclamation of 1763
    The British forbade colonists from settling west of the Appalachians to stop them from taking land from Native Americans.
  • Sugar Act

    Sugar Act
    Taxes placed on all sugars, and taxes on coffee, indigo and wine were increased.
  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
    Act passed by Britain that imposed a tax on all paper goods, from newspapers to legal documents.
  • Quartering Act

    Quartering Act
    This act allowed soldiers to be housed in the homes of colonists if barracks were full.
  • Townshend Act

    Townshend Act
    General title for the acts: the Revenue Act, the Indemnity, the Commissioners of Customs Act, the Vice Admiralty Court Act, and the New York Restraining Act. The purpose of these acts were to raise money in the colonies to pay the salaries of judges and governers, to enforce trade regulations in colonies, to punish New York for disobeying the Quartering Act, and to show the colonists that Britain had the right to tax the colonists.
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre
    Fight between British soldiers and colonists in Boston. Bostonians began throwing snow and rocks at soldiers and soldiers shot into the riot, killing 5 and injuring 6.
  • Boston Tea Party

    Boston Tea Party
    Sons of Liberty in Boston stormed onto a ship importing tea from the East India Company that the colonists would need to pay a tax for. The rebels dumped hundreds of chests of tea into the Boston Harbor.
  • Intolerable Acts

    Intolerable Acts
    Series of Acts meant to punish colonists for the Boston Tea Party. The acts removed the self government in Massachussetts.
  • First Continental Congress

    First Continental Congress
    Colonists meeting to discuss the Intolderable Acts. They found the need to meet only after the King put a blockade around the Boston Harbor.
  • Battle of Lexington and Concord

    Battle of Lexington and Concord
    First battle of the American Revolutionary War.
  • 2nd Continental Congress

    2nd Continental Congress
    The congress reconvened to write and then later pass the Declaration of Independence.
  • Battle of Bunker Hill

    Battle of Bunker Hill
    Considered a British victory because they gained control of Breed's Hill, but they lost 1,100 soldiers while the colonists lost about 400. Colonists had to back down because they ran out of bullets.

    Olive Branch Petition
    Truce written by the colonists to try to avoid full-on war with Britain. The king ignroed the metaphorical olive branch they stretched out to him, which sparked the war.

    Pamphlet written by Thomas Paine to encourage colonists to fight against the British, and that the way the British were treating them was unacceptable.
  • Battle of Princeton/Trenton

    Battle of Princeton/Trenton
    Suprise attack against British on Christmas night in Trenton. British soldiers unprepared because battles were usually not fought in the winter because the weather was so harsh. The same battle tactics were used in Princeton.

    Colonists wrote list of greivances in order to rally all the colonists together and to declare independence.
  • Battle of Saratoga

    Battle of Saratoga
    British were trying to cut off New England, but the British general surrendures and it is the biggest victory for American troops and turning point in the war.

    Major victory for British.
  • Battle of Yorktown

    Battle of Yorktown
    British troops are set up in peninsula in Yorktown waiting for supplies. Marquis de Lafayettes' troops surround the peniinsula, George Washington brings in reinforcements. British have supplies but no place to escape to, eventually British General Cornwallis surrendures and the war is over.
  • Treaty of Paris 1783

    Treaty of Paris 1783
    Provisions are: the Northern Border is down, Mississppi river is Western boundary, Florida is returned to Spain, Britain must withdraw troops from USA, Britain has to recognize the independence of the United States. The Congress recommends that loyalists be given rights to property and not be shunned.
