  • Sugar act

    Sugar act

    The Sugar act added restrictions to buying sugar such as only being able to buy from specific companies and limitations on the amount of sugar you could buy. The colonists were angry because they didn't want to only buy from British companies because they were expensive. The British were happy with their new restriction on the colonies.
  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act

    The stamp act required people to buy the royal stamp for every piece of paper they used. These stamps could range from 1 penny to 10 pounds. The colonists did not react well. They fought the tax often. The British were pleased at first but then repealed the act because the colonists fought against the act.
  • Declaratory Act

    Declaratory Act

    The Declaratory Act stated that the English Parliament had the same taxing authority in the colonies as in England. The colonists were very angry that England now had more control over them. The English were happy to have more control over the colonies.
  • Townsend Acts

    Townsend Acts

    This was a series of acts that put a tax on things such as paper, paint tea, glass, and lead. This upset the colonists so they started to boycott these items. The English were also frustrated because the colonists were fighting against their taxes.
  • Tea Act

    Tea Act

    The tea act made it so only one company was able to sell tea to the colonies. This angered the colonists and as a result, they poured hundreds of pounds of tea into the harbor. The English liked this tax because it saved one of their companies.
