Revenue Acts

  • Sugar Act

    This act placed tariffs on sugar, wine, coffee, and other items imported by the colonies. The colonist were outraged when this act was passed, but the British liked it because it helped them to get rid of their debt.
  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
    This act forced the colonist to pay a tax, in for of stamps, on various forms of paper and documents. The colonists were again furious, where as the British were in favor of the act
  • Declaratory Act

    Declaratory Act
    declaration by the British that repealed the Stamp act. The Declaratory Act stated that Parliament's power in England is the same in the colonies. Outraged the colonists and pleased the British.
  • Townshend Act

    Townshend Act
    The act that taxed incoming goods to the colonies. The British were happy with the act, and the colonists wanted it to end as soon as possible.
  • Boston Port Act

     Boston Port Act
    The British passes the Boston Port Act, closing the port of Boston and demanding that the city's residents pay for the nearly $1 million worth (in today's money) of tea dumped into Boston Harbor during the Boston Tea Party. The British were very angry about the causes of the act, but were happy to tax the colonists more. The colonists were the exact opposite.
