    Federalists were born rich, while the Jefferson's followers,federalists, were born into work. It began at the constitutional convention.

    Back in the day the Democrats ruled the south. They were also unopposed in government until the mid 1820's. This was when the Jackson's Democratic party came to party. They were also scared that the Republicans were going to give the African Americans more rights. And they were crippled by the war. The Republicans were able to run the country for the next 75 years cause of the war.

    Roosevelt Democrats

    The great depression led to a change in the political landscape. In 1932, Franklin Roosevelt, a democrat, was elected to the presidency. Roosevelt Democrats were southerners, small farmers, organized laborers, and big city political organizations. The party focused mainly on social welfare and economic programs

    Modern republicans

    Modern Republicans follow the more conservative tradition. They believe taxes shouldnt be increased, but the spending on the military should be increased. Strongly against abortion. Also, believe in individual rights and that justice should rule supreme.

    Modern Democrats are liberal, which means they are very open to change. They also favor a minimum wage and progressive taxation. They want to decrease military spending. They also support abortion and believe in community and that people should be socially responsible.
