    Intro

    The Renaissance was a new beginning for humanity. It was when we came to realize that we were free as human beings and overthrew the oppression of other nations. We came to this understanding through some tragic events. We survived the dark ages by rising up to who we really are. Art became a big hit, and we learned about science and nature. People became one with the world, some were sometimes happy and others weren't so sometimes happy. It would depend on what was going on. In the Renaissance

    Revolt of the Ciompi fails to win concessions for the poor of Florence

    The Revolt of the Ciompi was a rebellion pushed by the unrepresented craftsmen in Florence. These craftsmen consisted of all sorts of artisans who felt their trade was unrepresented. Although the revolt seemed to be a failure at first, this event helped to jump start the Renaissance

    The Papacy Returns to Rome

    The Papacy relocated to Avignon in 1305 and eventually returned to Rome. Using their wealth and resources they played a major role in rebuilding the city

    The first printing press was invented by a man named Johannes Gutenberg, a former goldsmith worker who had an idea of what would be needed to create such an invention. Since it was invented, the printing press has become an innovation to the world

    The Peace of Lodi was a peace agreement between Milan and Naples and Florence at Lodi in Lombardy.This agreement leads to 40 years of stability in Italy.

    Lorenzo de Medici becomes head of the citystate of Florence.

    Lorenzo was the next of the Medici line to receive power over Florence using his family's wealth and influence to his advantage. Lorenzo is credited as getting Florence to it’s highest height during the renaissance

    Sandro Botticelli finishes painting the Primavera

    Sandro Botticelli painted one of the most controversial paintings of the early renaissance. The theme of the picture was considered very secular as it contained Greco-Roman themes instead of the typical Christian picture.

    Malleus Maleficarum is published

    Malleus Maleficarum, a witch-finding guid was published by Catholic clergyman Heinrich Kramer. This book condoned a literal witch hunt and because of this many people were accused and died.

    The Birth of Venus is another controversial picture painted by Sandro Botticelli. Just like the Primavera, the theme if this picture was considered very secular and anti Christian by some.

    Christopher Columbus set out for his revolutionary voyage back in the renaissance time period to discover the Americas, thus starting a period of voyages out to the American continents

    The Medici are Ousted from Florence

    Girolamo Savonarola was a man who preached a return to simple faith. He is known for starting a popular uprising against the Medici family, who end up running from Florence. Girolamo Savonarola would later be burned as a heretic a year later

    Leonardo da Vinci paints the Last Supper

    Leonardo Da Vinci finishes painting one of the most well known pictures from the renaissance. The Last Supper depicts a scene from John 13:21 after Jesus reveals that one of his disciples would betray him.

    Leonardo Da Vinci is credited for painting one of the most popular paintings in the world. To this day, the Mona Lisa is credited as being the best known, the most sung about, and the most copied art piece and is worth about $800 million.

    Michelangelo’s David is unveiled

    Michaelangelo’s take on sculpting David has become one of the most iconic parts of the renaissance. The statue of David was inspired by Michelangelo wanting to take a shot at David before he became king.

    King Henry VIII ascends the English throne, bringing Renaissance ideals to his court

    Raphael paints his masterpiece The School of Athens.

    Raphael is the artist behind the infamous School of Athens painting. The painting represents different branches of knowledge and his based on ancient Greco-Roman themes.

    Michelangelo finished painting the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel

    One of the greatest pieces of art from the renaissance was Michelangelo’s work on the ceiling of the sistine chapel in the Vatican. Michelangelo spent 4 years on his back perfecting his art and creating something that would be known for years to come

    Martin Luther posts his 95 theses on the door of the Church of Gutenberg.

    MLK started a revolutionary movement after posting his 95 theses on the door of the Church of Wittenberg. This started a divide among the Roman Catholic church

    Leonardo da Vinci Dies

    Leonardo da Vinci succumbed to a stroke at the age of 67. He made a huge impact on science, art, and technological advancements during this time period and is one of the better known renaissance figures.

    The Sack of Rome

    After failing to meet the demands of the Imperial Army, Rome was attacked and taken over within 12 hours. This was the main event that many believe ended the Renaissance, many believe the Renaissance never ended.
