Renaissance- Boats

    1100 BC

    There were two different kinds of ships. A squat and a tubby sailboat. It carried passengers and trading goods. The longer boat was made for war, these were used during the Greek and Roman times.

    260-255 BC

    The long ship was introduced to the Mediterranean navies.
  • May 23, 1200

    15th Century AD

    A humble Europian ship was propelled by one single sail. The oarsmen have changed very little in the design since the time of the Phoenicians. Boats and ships have had tons of improvements and new designs along with ways of running.
  • May 23, 1300

    16th century AD

    The largest ship in the 15th century was the Spanish Carrack. This ship could easily out do the caravel. The Spanish Carrack was 1000 tons compared to the caravel which weighed 250 tons.

    1955- Hovercraft

    Info. for The Hovercraft was a boat/ship that floats and reaches speeds at 140 km. per hour!
  • 1959- Cargo Ships

    The N.S. Savannah was one of the first nuclear powered cargo ships. This ship was able to travel for three and a half years with out refuelling.
  • 1980's- Container Ships and Supertankers

    The Cargo ship carry huge metal boxes and heavy stuff. The modern cargo ship could carry thousands of containers. These containers were loaded off and on to trucks then carried off.
    The Supertanker was one of the largest ships ever made and this special ship was made for transporting oil.
  • 1900's- Cruise Liners

    Cruise liners aren't made for the military and carrying heavy duty cargo, they are made for carrying hundreds of people. This boat has restraunts, shops, cinema, and other recreation activities. All of these modern day boats have been here to help keep our country safe.
