Soviet Premier Khrushchev sends nuclear missiles to Cuba in an attempt to deter a future US invation. This leads to a 13 day standoff nearly resulting in nuclear war. In the end, the missiles are removed from Cuba and the US announces publicly it will not invade Cuba
