The war of 1812 was between the U.S, Canada, and the United Kingdom. It happened in North America, and the result of the war was the Treaty of Ghent, which was a peace treaty. This is important because it was a major event in Canadian history.

In 1814, Governor Douglas issued the Pemmican proclamation, which was the banning of the running of the buffalo. This angered a lot of Metis people, which led to them burning down Fort Douglas in anger. This is important because it was basically the start of the Red River rebellions.

In 1815, Fort Douglas was rebuilt by Selkirk's men and then used as a trading post. This is important because Fort Douglas is a big part of the Red River rebellion.

In 1816, Governor Semple captured Fort Gibraltar and destroyed it. This lead to more rebellion between the NWC employees and the Selkirk settlers and HBC employees. This is important because this is a major event that kept the Red River rebellions going.

Lord Selkirk built up an army of around 100 men and went to retake the valley. Along the way, they captured Fort William, which is where the Northwest Company has their headquarters. They arrested quite a few of their employees and then continued on to go rebuild the Red River Valley. This is important because it leads into more conflict.

There are a few legal battles between the HBC and the Northwest Company a few years following his death that greatly uses up his money and puts a toll on his health. Lord Selkirk inevitably ends up dying from tuberculosis. This is important because his death was basically the end of the rebellion.

After Lord Selkirk's death, both companies are weak from all the fighting so they just decided to merge together. After that, everything was peaceful once again and it was again safe for the Metis. This is important because this is the end of the Red River Rebellions.

These rebellions happened because of the status of people, and both Upper and Lower thought that the other was unfair basically. This is important because it led to the union of the two.

Lord Durham came after the rebellions of Upper and Lower Canada to see what was so wrong and to see what he could do to fix it. He made some recommendations of what could improve the life there! This is important because Lord Durham did the work that not a lot of people were so pleased with and I think he did help out in a way.

The Act Of Union was the union of Upper and Lower Canada after the Durham report was put in. Since Lord Durham recommended they unite the two provinces, they did it. This is important because it leads to the Confederation of our country.

The Canadian Pacific Railroad was so important for Canada to have because a lot of the Western provinces were tired of being so spread out and far from the rest of Canada. The CPR was build so that the Western provinces wouldn't pull out of confederation.

The South Branch Metis vote Louis Riel to act as their political leader. This is important because it basically is what triggered the rebellions to start.

The Metis forces are defeated in a battle that lasts three days This is important because this is one of the last major battles before Louis Riel and others stood down and surrendered.

When Riel was tried, he defended all the Metis as well as himself even though he had a low chance of winning the trial. He talked about how weak they all were and that they had no choice but to rebel because of all of the broken promises. In the end, they found him guilty of treason. This is important because it is nearing the end of the rebellion, and all of the fights are almost over.

Louis Riel is hanged in Regina. He was supposed to be hanged in September of 1885, but it happened later. Even though his sanity was questioned, he was still inevitably hanged. This is important because everything is being dealt with by now and everyone is facing consequences for the rebellion.
