Kindergarten-Learning Spanish alphabet and words
I went to an all Spanish school in California where I learned the Spanish alphabet first and how to read in Spanish. -
1st grade- Reading level books
I had a little difficulty transitioning from Spanish to English, but working with level books helped me get to where I was supposed to be. -
2nd Grade-Resource class
My teacher had placed me in Resource class which was meant to help students who were falling behind, she said I was behind on my reading, but she admitted to my parents that I was placed there because I talked to much in class. -
3rd Grade-Read aloud-Junie B. Jones
My favorite teacher to this day showed me how magical reading books can be. My favorite books that she read were the Junie B. Jones series. -
4th Grade-Book Fair Goosebumps
I used to watch the series Goosebumps on TV, so when I saw the books at the bookfair, I had to have them! My son even reads them now. -
6th Grade- Writing Stories
My English teacher had us write a story using our vocabulary words. I always read it to my older sister, which she always told me they were great. -
9th Grade- To Kill a Mockingbird and Lord of the Flies
In 9th grade, I was left with the task to read books that I did not enjoy making me realize I did not enjoy reading at all. -
Freshman year in College
I didn't realize how much reading and writing would have to be done in College, I was definitely overwhelmed. -
Reading at Work
I worked graveyard shift for a few years and the people I worked with would always read since it was slow. They recommended some books for me and that's where I fell in love with reading all over again. -
History Class in College
I never liked History class, but all that changed when I had a history teacher that had us read real interviews and stories about people telling our true history. It made me have a greater appreciation for History.
