    First Time

When I was able to fully speak actual sentences my mom decided it was a good time to have my dad build us a big shelf in our play room so we could start having books there. She wanted us to be prepared for school as well as enjoy reading as much as she did.

    Beginning of Elementary School

In my elementary years from kindergarten to second grade we were always encouraged to read and we even had to reach a minimum of books to read throughout the year and take AR test on the books we read to test that we were able to comprehend what we read. Reaching our goal was often rewarded so I always made sure to do the best i can and get the most points possible.

    Library in elementary

Library was one of my most favorite species to attend, the library lady always read with such great tone and always made the books so interesting. I would always check out at least two books every week and sometimes even four.

    Fourth Grade

In this year I still tried my best to get more and more books read so i can get more AR points and be rewarded more often. I then started to become familiar with the popular series and challenged myself to reading higher levels

    Fifth Grade

By this year they wanted us to challenge ourselves so the quizes were no longer based on the amount of points we earned but more if the reading level was higher.
  • Middle School

    Middle School

My friends all read at a way higher reading level so I wanted to challenge myself to also be at a higher reading level so I began to just read many books and slowly progressed in reading levels. This did help me a bit and I was proud of myself.
  • Battle of the books

    Battle of the books

In sixth grade my school held a battle of the books. Because I was able to catch up to my friends in reading levels they allowed me to be in their group. We all read a certain amount of books and were held accountable to know the book so we could answer them during the competition. We got second place in this and we were all very happy

    Highschool

My reading started to lessen, I would only read the books that I had to read for my english classes. I stopped reading for entertainment which is something I am deeply disappointed in myself with.

    Pre School (Junior year)

My junior year of high school I was in the early childhood education program where we got to run an onsite preschool. Being apart of this we always had to teach lessons and we had to do at least one lesson in every subject we provided. Reading at circle time was one of these which I very much enjoyed because as much as I loved circle time when I was young, I wanted to create the same experience for our preschoolers.
  • Senior Internship

    Senior Internship

My senior year of high school we got to actually have an internship in whichever desired grade. I choose first grade. When in my internship my teacher allowed me to be in charge of one of the reading groups during reading centers, where I would help students read a small book or article or short story and then answer a worksheet along with it. I also sometimes read the book during reading circle time. I very much enjoyed having the opportunity to teach students and help them with their reading.
