Reading History

  • The Hungry Caterpillar

    The Hungry Caterpillar
This book was my source of learning a new language. Coming from a background of not knowing English and having to learn everything once again but in a different language was a challenge. I remember this book teaching me not only lessons but also taught me colors, numbers, and new words. This book is my treasure and without it, I would still be struggling.
  • Geronimo Stilton

    Geronimo Stilton
It's library time and as a 5th grader, one is trying to find their favorite genre. Looking through the books I came amongst Geronimo stilton's books. My first graphic novel gave me not only a better understanding of books but also felt part of the adventure. This helped me make friends and have common likes with people.
  • The Outsiders

    The Outsiders
I was in 7th grade and we had to read this story and I really enjoyed it. It not only taught me about the history of popularity and rebellious kids but I could relate to the story. Being in school reminded me of how everyone is separated based on beliefs and looks.
  • Out of my Mind

    Out of my Mind
8th-grade year, sitting in English class and was given a book. I thought well this is going to be boring because of the cover. Then I realized it had a different meaning, which opened my interest to other genres and taught me not to judge a book by its cover.
  • Romeo and Juliet

    Romeo and Juliet
The first year of high school, it's another setting. One is still struggling to find their liking and is finding themselves as well. I was introduced to this book. At first, I was thinking I already know this story why did I have to read it again? In reality, we were only told the shorter version growing up and did not realize Shakespeare's form of writing. This made me interested in this kind of reading and the genre as well. Tragedy.
  • Of Mice and Men

    Of Mice and Men
Novella. What a story, Of Mice and Men, had to be one of my favorite books in high school. It was so plotted to twist and seeing how the characters evolved throughout the story and dealt with things in the past was very eye-opening. I can understand why it is required reading in high school.
  • The Masque of the Red Death

The Masque of the Red Death
An author whose writings are different from others. Reading this book made me realize how good of a writer he was. Not only was this story suspenseful but it also held a deeper meaning. He describes the story in every detail and one can think about why is it like this. He knew what he was doing and this caught my attention, for example, in this story each room represented a stage in life. Each room went from bright o dark colors, representing birth to death.
  • Beowulf

    Beowulf
Finishing of highschool with this book was a great way of ending the year. Beowulf was a story that taught the reader the values and motivations of the main characters. This story taught me many values and as a senior in school preparing to go out to the real world was a lot of help. This made me realize that if I can believe it and desire it, things can happen and opportunities are available if one is willing to sacrifice themselves and go for it.
