    LANGUAGE ACQUISITION
    I began acquiring language and word meaning at a young age by watching Disney movies.

    Kindergarten
    Kindergarten was when I began reading. I don’t remember reading on my own a lot but I remember my teachers reading out loud to me followed by an activity. One day we read Green Eggs and Ham and afterward made real green eggs and ham.

    Vocabulary
    First grade is the first memory I have of learning accelerated vocabulary. I remember getting a vocab list at the beginning of the week and studying for the quiz all week. This really helped with recognizing words when I later read on my own.

     Accelerated Reading
    I remember the AR program at my elementary school. This really got kids reading on their own. Personally, I still didn’t like reading and only did this for the points.

    Chapter Books
    In 4th grade I remember beginning to read chapter books in class. These were the first books I remember enjoying because they were so relatable. They were perfectly targeted for my age group and made me want to read more.

    In 5th grade I began reading out of textbooks. This is the first time I remember reading for specific information. I learned to use textbooks for definitions and complex information.

    Once in middle school I did not have a good attitude towards reading. I did not have motivation to read and did not like doing it for fun nor for school. The books assigned in class did not interest me and it took a couple of years for me to gain interest. I thought I hated reading
  • Young Adult Fiction

     Young Adult Fiction
    One day I grabbed a book that looked interesting and I loved it right off the bat. I realized that I did like reading and that there was a certain genre that I liked the most and that was young adult fiction.

    Analyzing Reading
    I started analyzing books in English class. I started understanding a deeper meaning of what I was reading, I really enjoyed doing these activities and knowing more about the books I was reading.

    College
    In college I started taking education courses that taught me how to read to students and how to get them interested in reading.
